Question z840 displaying weird boot behavior

One of my z840 is displaying weird behavior. I'll leave it working on something overnight and the next morning it appears have shut itself down instead of hibernating. When I turn it back on it goes through the normal boot process. When it posts I have to go into the boot menu to boot to Windows. It defaults to booting to Linux. The weird behavior is that despite looking like a cold boot, it says 'resuming windows" and when I get to desktop everything is where it was before with the same programs running and the same windows open. I can't figure out if it is a Windows issue or maybe there is some BIOS setting I don't know about?
