Does anyone have this setup?
I'm looking at getting these two and looking for input for any potential clearance issues with the memory, chipset, etc.

TIA:)

Thanks all for looking, although no one replied, I got these two and have no problems what so ever:)

Glad to hear you don't have clearance issues.

BTW, how do you like the Z77 Sabertooth? I'm thinking of getting one. I only need a motherboard to finish my Ivy Bridge build.

I'm still building it, hope to have it completed by the weekend. I'll chime back in when done and let you know.

Hey

Got that mobo but I stuck a noctua cooler d14.

It's keeping it extreme cool but it looks awful as its creamish and brown in colour.

This thermal radar is keeping all around the motherboard at 25c. +- a bit.

But idk what it would be on a normal mobo for compare with.

Still 5 year guarantee

Do u think. There maybe a upgrade path?

I got a very noise msi gtx 670 oc.

Only upgrade I can think of is sli later

I have a Samsung 830 ssd.

Finished assembling today, and had to fired it up just b4 headng into work. Tinkered a bit with the GUI BIOS and liked what I saw. I'll install the OS tonight.

Although my last case of several years had a large clear window to view the internals. I got new Fractal R3 case and can't inside any longer, thus the color scheme is of no concern to me.

What do you mean by "normal mobo"? If you mean without the Thermal Armor, one would have to remove it and run tests without it for any true comparison. Go for it, I'd love to read about it.

As to the rest of your questions/statements, you'll have to expand more on them.

I too have a Samsung 830.

Everything went smooth, new case is very quiet. New HD is a little faster too. GB nic seems faster also. Need to install BF3 again and see how this thing really runs, very pleased over all, its been 4 yrs since new, hopefully this one will last at least half that.

Fastman,

Thanks for posting your results! I am planning on this combo of fan and motherboard [my pentium 4 just blue-screened for the 3rd time today as I was replying].

Which way are you blowing your fan-- to the back of the case or to the top? If to the back, how close does it get to the nearest card slots?

Congrats on the new system!

Fastman, Can you give a list of the parts you used? Particularly memory? I too am worried about clearance with the evo with all memory slots filled. I should have most of my stuff ordered by tomorrow evening.

Congrats on the new system!

The fan on the CPU is blowing towards the rear, it's almost directly in line with the Fractal R3 top case fan, which blows out, so it just made sense. I added the optional 140mm fan at the botom blowing straight onto the 7970 with only minor obstuctions from the Pwr Sup cables.

Using the first (top) PCIe slot, I have about 1.25 inches sperating the CPU and the Vid Card, lots of room really. The only other card I have is a sound card in bottom PCIe 2.0 slot.

:)

This a completely new build other then the Vid Card (XFX7970 Black) and Sound Card (Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty)I got this year, consisting of:

Fractal R3 Case
Seasonic X650 PS
Asus Sabertooth Z77 MB
3570K CPU with CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler
Samsung 830 256Gb HD
16Gb of Samsung Model MV-3V4G3D/US, its that new very small stuff without any heat sinks on it so no clearance issues at at.

Also a couple of optical drives from last year, Blu-Ray player and old school DVD-DL burner.
And finally a WD 2Tb HD for storage:)

Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks Fastman! Looks like it will be a trick to find the Samsung memory, though.

Yo fastman,
I'm palnning to get the same mobo and cooler, but with an i7 3770K and 16 GB Corsair Vengeance (4*4). Can you tell me if the EVO is blocking even one DIMM slot?

It does not block a slot but it does come to about an eighth of an inch from doing so. If the corsairs have thick heat spreaders it may be an issue. If you face the cpu fan towards the top and bottom it wont be a problem though.

I got this mobo too with i5 3570k and i was looking for a cooler with the question about the dimension of it.

My question is; is the cooler master hyper 212 evo good for this mobo?

I also bought the same MB (Sabertooth z77), with an i7 3770K and 16 GB Corsair Vengeance (4*4). I just came across this thread and now I'm worried about fitting everything in, as the Corsairs do have pretty thick heat spreaders (I haven't opened any of the boxes up yet, so I can't tell exactly)! Is there a cooling performance compromise, or any other undesirable side effect, with facing the cpu fan towards the top and bottom as you suggest? Or is it just as good as facing it to exhaust at the rear? In my current build, I have the cpu facing (exhausting toward) the rear, which I like (and it's very close to the fan on the back of the case, which helps suck the heat out).

Thanks for any insights!

shubhseth, did you try your Corsair 4x4GB with this mobo and cooler? did it fit okay?

Would appreciate an update, thanks!

As long as there is a small amount of space between the sticks proper cooling should not be an issue. No issue other then clearence for my recommendation for a top/bottom orientation.

Thanks for the fast response. So, orienting the cooler top to bottom will cool the cpu just as well as orienting front to rear?

Excellent. Thanks again. I feel better now.

All of my new components have been sitting here since last week, but I've been out of town and then too busy with work to tear into all these boxes and start building, unfortunately. So, what do I do? I start second-guessing all of my choices, of course . . . .
