I am going to just go ahead and get the 2700K instead of the IB...doesn't appear to offer any performance jump if you have a dedicated graphics card.
Will the Z77 motherboards be compatible with Haswell when it does come out?

IB is actually a little cheaper than SB. So unless you want to OC the hell out of it, might as well wait a week and get the IB.

NOPE!!! Haswell is completely new technology,, sorta how the Core 2 series was. Its going to be up to 40 percent faster then ivy,,, gl

I would hold off on expecting Haswell to perform 40% better than IB since we've seen how well Intel held up to the 15-20% better than SB that IB was supposed to be.

They did, but on mobile. I think we'll see another 20% with Haswell. Of course with clock speed increases counted in.

Or, you know, you could've just stated the only known true fact - that it'll be on s1150 and thus incompatible...

Way to contradict yourself too.

Funny little thing:

cpu-mch-vrm-package.jpg

Thats basicly Haswell for desktops realized. Tho its all ondie and not seperated into 3.

All the coppercoloured parts is what will have been removed from the motherboard with Haswell. Quite a movement since Core 2 and below.

The visions from 2005 realized.

maybe 20% in the GPU area, the core cpu, noting special is expected, another 5-10% sort of thing.

As to faster clock speeds, proberly at the higher end, but proberly only a few 100Mhz which against 3.5Ghz is not that special anymore.

Intel is aiming for mobile so desktop is going to be getting shafted in terms of performance increase.

I would not be very surprised if in 5 years we have the option of laptop cpus in our desktops (small mATX sized as standard) or having to pay for the SB-E cpu for a power user so that we stay in the mid tower sized cases.

Although Core 2 was a new arch, it shared the same LGA 775 socket as the previous one (Pentium 4).
