Local stores are completely out of DDR4 boards.....plenty of DDR5 boards but no memory available....the price is just laughable when stock is found.

They do have some CPU's available but it is hit or miss.

DDR5 is really the big monkey wrench in this launch.

I recently sold some DDR5 at near MSRP price. Bought them at launch at Micro Center before the scalper slackjaws caught wind of the new shiny. Two kits of Crucial 4800 16GB (2 x 8GB) for $175 each. It went somewhat fast. I didn't want to gouge buyers like scalpers do. Bought 32GB (2 x 16GB) G.SKILL Z5 5600 CL36 prior to that to replace them. That was at the Micro Center scalping price of $500. Running them at 6000 CL36 with 1.30V.

Be happy that Intel took the bullet on the DDR5 launch. Maybe by Zen 4 it will be readily available and the kinks worked out. AMD would have met the same fate if they launched first.

Motherboard makers should have concentrated on DDR4 boards first then start rolling out DDR5 boards after 60 or 90 days.

I also noticed the DDR5 boards seem better quality while the DDR4 are more budget boards.

How would that improve DDR5 availability? DDR5 wouldn't have been available in any quantity without a use for it.

I unfortunately paid extra to acquire my DDR5 though so far I'm not regretting it. z690 is more stable than z590 was for me.

Yeah because of course they want you to pay those premium prices!

Launch DDR4 boards since DDR4 is abundant then wait for the supply of DDR5 to build up and then launch boards for it.

DDR5 isn't much faster at this stage....it will improve over time though.

Only thing botched was DDR5 availability, and that's the fault of the ram manufacturers/resellers. CPUs and motherboards were always easy to find and DDR5 stock has improved a lot in the last weeks in Canada. It does cost 3-4 times the price of DDR4, so not a good deal right now.

Just wish they skipped the DDR5 launch until they had enough supply.

CPU + DDR4 + Motherboard = Good Launch

DDR5 will be good when 6400 and 7200 become available.
