Z68 SSD Caching with 32gb ssd?

Hey guys, have a few questions. Been thinking about getting a small ssd just for SRT. I have never attempted to use SRT before but it looks simple, just software right? My brother is willing to help me out with a cheap ssd as a gift so why not, but before I try I would like to know how does it work. Is a 32gb ssd good enough? I wouldn't be getting an expensive one just whatever is cheap. I have 2x 1tb drives in my system if that matters and I'm also asking if my motherboard is suited for this. I have a BIOSTAR TZ68A+RCH. Thanks in advance.

edit: also would it be better to use it as the boot drive? or just to hook it up as a extra drive just to use all the space for srt?

I have the same board with SRT set up.

32GB is a good size but I am not sure if SRT will make use of the full capacity for caching. I have a strange feeling it will only allow you use up to 20GB.

Just a couple of notes.

1. Your Windows should have been installed in RAID mode and not IDE mode. If not you will have to reinstall.

2. If you have an existing Windows installation and have made BIOS changes (such as for using Lucid Virtu), then Windows may get stuck during re-installation. You may need to reset your BIOS settings to default before proceeding and re-setup Virtu.

These were problems that I faced. But as long as you are aware of them there should be no problem and everything should be straightforward.

Oh! And one more thing. Just stick with the RST driver that is on your motherboard drivers CD. Don't download the latest one from Intel. Caused me problems and I had to roll back. 🙂

Newegg has after rebate pricing on two Sandforce 2200 based 60GB SSDs for $70 or less right now. Sounds like perfect SSD cache drives.
