Is this just more marketing crap? How can they claim that their new mobos have PCI-E Gen 3? Isn't that a function of the PCI-E lanes on the 1155 CPU itself?

They're saying the signaling IC chips on the PCIe sockets are capable of PCIe 3.0 speeds, but their disclaimer says the PCIe specification is dependent on what CPU you have installed. They claim PCIe 3.0 only with an Ivy Bridge chip installed. Basically they're trying to market the board as future proofed for PCIe 3.0, and they are being quite misleading with their marketing IMO by having all these statements in the fine print on the website. I'm sure the retail box will not have such disclaimers on it, but instead with have PCIe 3.0 in big yellow lettering with silver shiny metallic outlines.

Note:
To run the PCI Express 3.0 slots in Gen 3 speed, please must install the Ivy Bridge CPU which supports PCI Express 3.0. If you install the Sandy Bridge CPU, the PCI Express 3.0 slots will run only at Gen2 speed.

Well at least asrock stated in a little know that you need ivybridge, msi announced the same thing but has not made that note, I have yet to double check

PCIE 3 won't bring any tangible benefits over PCIE2 regardless whether IB is needed or not, let alone the fact that Intel never said anything about IB compatibility with current 1155 mobos..yet.

As for the marketing fluff...That only shows how desperate the desktop mobo industry now to maintain 2003 era product segmentation against a shrinking desktop segment and the ever-higher integration of traditional mobo parts onto the CPU. I bet it we shall see yet another mobo manufacturer folding to join Abit, DFI, Shuttle, Epox, Albatron, Soyo...Quite a long list really.

Would you like to wager on that? The first reviews will show it using SB and SB isn't PCI-E III
