z640's for 66 bucks

Also available at Gateway for $57.95. They have free shipping though, with the coupon code listed on their checkout page. This is where I got mine from about a month ago.

nice... how is it compared to my trusty old FPS 2000 4.1 system... I use it cuz of the little digital output from my old sblive! card... would this be compatible?

I believe Sam's Club has then for $59.

I bought a set for my g/f's computer. They sound about as good as you can get out of $60 speakers. I like them.

I like using a home theater setup though. I had a receiver laying around, so I paired that with some yamaha bookshelf speakers (AT hot deal for $20).

I got these for around 80 about a year and a half ago... and Im just really not that impressed... maybe its cause ive only used them with a 2.1 laptop soundcard, but they arent that loud and theres a good bit of distortion

I paid about $50 for mine a couple of months ago and have been happy with them. While they don't really compare to a nice home theater system they are great for the money. I am using them on the Asus A7N8X Deluxes SoundStorm Audio.

Also, I remember a lot of initial complaints about buzzing and some distortion. I think Logitech revised them a bit.

yea who knows... I just wanna start up my HTS system... buy bigass speakers 2 at a time and then as time goes on move them from the front to the rear of my setup, ultimately creating a system that could break glass with the clarity and ribs with the bass..

Too bad im dirt poor

Got 2 sets of z-560's 400 watters last week from justdeals for $99.99 each plus shipping $16.85 for both sets!!!!! Plus a Netgear 802.11b Wireless Compact Flash Card $29.95 for the dell Axim X5 i got 2 weeks ago. Plugged it in, loaded the CD, and hasnt lost a signal yet!!!!

Hotter deal than the speakers for $29.99!!!

Only thing hotter was the shipping if any of you dont know, the 560's weight 56 pounds.

I'm glad someone posted this. I was looking for a good deal on this set. I have the older z540s and love them. They pack plenty of punch for movies/games/music. For all you younger people who want more power (and deafness in your later years) the 560s and newer 680s have a lot of brain-numbing (and deafening power).

I've done some research and the best deals on the 640s are as follows:

1. If you can wait for shipping go with the Dell deal. Shipping looks to be free and tax is only about $3.50 for me. Total comes to about $57 and change.
2. If you want the speakers the same day you can go down to OfficeMax (if you have one) and buy them for $79.98. Use a Staples $15 off $75 and get them for $69 plus change (7% tax here).

Hope this helps ....

Byt he way, ANYONE who currently owns the z640's, can you tell me the lengths of the wires to the front AND the rear speakers? One of the reviews I read stated that the wire length to the front speakers was too short. My main concern is the length of the rea speaker wires. I need anywhere from 12 to 15 feet for the room I am putting them in. The Logitech site fails to mention wire length and neither do any of the reviews I've read. Bummer ...

wow guys thanks.

but now i'm thinking, i have gotten some bonus cash,
and from what a i read, there is a huge difference in the quality of the speakers as you go up. (noticable)

so what would be the next one up from the z640s
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t..._8/102-7766405-5062520?v=glance&s=electronics

heres the 500 watter..
the big question since it's 200 bucks more than the 640's

are these worth the extra 200.

biggest differnce i see is 640's are 71 watts
and these are 500 watts. =)

hmm one more middle ground
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...15/102-7766405-5062520?v=glance&s=electronics
150 buckish 280 watts..

seems the 500 watt one is digital.. not sure what that means in quality.

the 560's and 680s are thx certified.... and have over 5x the power of the 640s...

to answer wire length Q... I have the 640s... let me measure the rear wires real quick...... between 14 and 15 feet long is what I came up with, the fronts are about 6-7 .... the center channel fat wire into the sub is only about 6 or feet long at the most... hope that helps

It might be a stretch (literally) to get them that far, but I have a bit of slack with the rear satellites about 10 feet from the sub (where they plug in). Actually, maybe it is more like twelve feet... not sure, but you should be ok.

Great speakers for the money, btw.

rcrooks: Your problem is not the speakers. Pretty much anything is going to sound crappy and distorted coming from a 2.1 soundcard on a laptop.
