Just curious as to how a person would hook-up his Z560's to his tv-vcr as a home theater setup.
:)
Need some audophile help.

Use something like this to connect the "audio out" on your vcr to the "line in" on your sound card. That is how I have mine hooked up here.

And don't forget to "uncheck" or "un-mute" the line-in channel on your windows sound control/mixer.

Well, for an HT setup, you are implying you want, at least, surround sound. Unfortunately, that cable will not help you achieve this. You'll have to get some kind of a receiver/decoder... and for PC speakers, the best best is the Creative Labs SoundBlaster Extigy (fortunately or unfortunately). You'll be able to use CMSS to expand 2 channel stereo signals coming from standard TV stations into "4.1" surround sound.

Also note that even the lowest of all low-rent HT solutions should consist of a 5.1 speaker set up.

Right-- there are other better ways to go about HT (all involving more equipment than a tv, vcr, and pc with Z-560s), but as far as a simple "how a person would hook-up his Z560's to his tv-vcr", the ~$7 cable does the trick. Also, note that the Z-560's come with the "M3D" switch that does add a rear/surround channel to a standard stereo signal, like that commonly offered by the audio outputs found on a vcr. Read the last few paragraphs found here to learn more about M3D.

Heck, with the right adapter/cable, you can even dispense with the pc if the M3D is good enough for you.

Also, there must exist some software that can convert stereo audio from the line input to Dolby Surround, properly separated via front/rear outputs on a "SB Live"-class card...

Many software DVD players can do this. But I believe they have to license it, so its not going to be downloadable for free anywhere.

M3D is a close approximation of Dolby Surround, and will do the trick if youre not that picky.
