I just saw that when I went to Logitech's site earlier. The rear satellites being wireless does sound like a cool idea, but is it worth 2x the price of the Z-5500's (and they're still less powerful, it seems)? I don't think so.

might as well not get surround speakers at all IMO

I saw a nice demo a full 7.1 wireless home theatre system. I didnt notice any problems with it. Everything seemed perfectly in sync to me and my friends.

it can be done well...but why in most cases is this necessary?

When people get 7.1 and such systems...they are looking for audio quality why do something that will negate some of that quality when it costs more and just makes it a little easier to setup. Just my opinion

I didn't even think about that. I imagine you'd have to have some huge batteries (or else replace them every week) for pretty powerful satellite speakers...seems like almost more trouble than it's worth (even if you totally ignore the sky-high cost)...

I'm starting to lean that way... been thinking about picking up some z-2300s... i don't have the room to place my 5.1 speakers properly, so i might as well get nice 2.1s

It is full range...it's just heavily EQed like Bose : )

(Although I think 3-inch drivers in general hit a brickwall around 16k in terms of audibility, no matter how high you EQ/distort it. No more West Coast Sound!)

I don't think a 3" should go higher than 6K IMO(depending on the driver) and forget anything lower than 200 Hz
