Z4 M Coupe opinions?

These things really seem priced right.. 06/07's are in the mid 20's.. About the same as what I'm budgeting for an 06/07 G35, but the Z4 just seems like a much better car...

FYI - I don't need a lot of room and don't care much about maintenance as long as it isn't major engine/tranny stuff... I have a truck for hauling crap around.

Thoughts?

The drivetain is very reliable, maintenance can be a pain, though. Inspection II (~40k miles) includes valve clearance adjust, for example.

It's a joy to drive, though. I just got rid of my roadster with a heavy heart.

I love the look of those cars. I'd say high 20's is probably more in line with what they cost. It is a BMW but for 27-28 thousand dollars there are a lot of new/newer cars that you could buy for that kind of scratch. Plus BMW parts are dough. For a roadster though, it's a sweet looking car.

I paid 31k for a fully loaded 04 3.0 roadster back a little under 3 years ago. Granted, it only had like 15,000 miles and was CPO, so that jacked up the price a bit (i looked around, price was fair at the time).

Changing the oil is easy. Brakes too. I'm at about 67,000 miles, and it's been a blast. My only complaints are some rattles in the interior, and I did have problems with the convertible top. It had to have the hydraulic replaced, twice. Since they had to pull the top apart, twice, it has some rattles and creaks in it now. I've bitched, because it's a small cabin and I hear all the noise because its right behind my head, but I just turn up the radio and drive.

I love the car, and chicks dig it.

I also hit a deer with it last june, and did about 7,000 in damage. Since it needed a new front bumper, I elected to pay the difference on the Aero kit, which is a more aggressive bumper cover. I also put on the aero skirts. Makes the car look alot meaner, imho.

I got to give props for the windshield quality though. It saved my life. You can see where the deer landed after I hit it in the following pic. You can also what the original ground effects, or lack there of, looked like. A pic of the car after the body work 2nd. The sideskirts flair out, which really helps the appearance.

I think the drop top is technically faster, due to less weight, but I really like the coupe. Very cool looking cars.

Why not grab a Z3 M "boot" instead?

The clownshoe?

Although it's a great handling car, its also one of the ugliest cars ever produced.

The only people who will like it will be weirdos like you and the other 99.9 percent will laugh and point.

You and people like you are the reason most cars are as interesting as a fridge door.

How is the convertible lighter? Most cars the convertible option adds a couple hundred pounds to the car.

My guess is because the z4 was originally built as a convert, so all the structural stuff was already built in. Add a solid roof with glass and you get that small weight gain, and perhaps a little more rigidity as well.

That makes sense. It's not exactly lightweight to begin with.

Which really is fine with me... I'm not looking for a miata-type car.. It seems like it would be good on the nice highways around here, and the clutch seems built well to deal with traffic.

I can't find one local but I'm keeping an eye out!

I just did a quick search and found 14 M Coupes within 100 miles of me ranging in price from the mid $30k to high $20k.

There are tons of them out west. They're very rare here... I've seen one, maybe two and I pay attention to the cars and junk around me.

2, both are 250 miles away. The rest are over near you.

I'm not crazy about the Z4 either. The Z3 was a much better looking car IMO and the M Coupe is fricken hot!

All the old generations sucked on the inside. They've improved it quite a bit now, but not everyone's a fan of the exterior now.

Honestly, for the price I'm thinking of picking one up for a daily driver to replace my aging Maxima. I could buy a used Vette for about the same price but I absolutely hate the interior on the Corvette...it is absolute rubbish.

Fantastic car, I love it. The suspension is unyielding but comfortable, torque feels like it's everywhere, very fast, and yet very elegant at the same time.

Only downsides I found was that its power output is a downer, (340 hp) not bad at all, but not what it could be, and the noise it produces is not throaty...at all.

A supercharger and new exhaust are future possibilities...

Torque is something the car lacks, actually. You really have to wring it out to get any.

The only thing to watch out for is the 1-2 shift grinding. It was a fairly common occurance. Also, the motor mounts tend to back out or break bolts.

Still, if I had room for a fun car, this would be on my short list.
