The GMXs aren't quite as good, no, but they're better than a lot of speakers out there.

Promedia's 2.1s. A bit more musical than the Z2200s. The latter have some nice bass though, if that's your thing.

either one would make a huge difference over my integrated sound and crappy generic speakers, right?

I am running the Klipsch 2.1's off integrated sounds and it's awesome! Better sound than I have ever had before. They can get VERY loud and have a good range. I love em!

But hey, the price diff. is huge so if people are saying equally good things about logitech, go for it if price is an issue.

Get logitech Z2200 from Amazon since they are cheap with the rebate. For 150-160 you are saying you can get 2.1 Klipsch, Z5300 Logitech's will surely blow them out of the water. 2.1 sound isnt impressive for me. I listened to Klipsch GMX (cheaper series) at the Apple Store and they sounded worse than my lowly 5.1 5300 48 watts Inspire Creative 4-year-old system.

$64 actually. It was never $55. $62 was its lowest IIRC.

Anyway, I was so damn tempted to jump on this deal, but I already have a free set of Altec Lansing ATP3, which aren't too bad actually, for my small apt room. Is the Z2200 that much better?

Yes I concur. Klipsch satellites have better midrange and high due to separated components (midrange drivers, tweeters). The Klipsch subwoofer is tight and defined meaning not boomy like the Logitech subs while maintaing great depth.

I am selling BRAND-NEW sets of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX speakers for $90 USD before shipping. Let me know if you guys are interested via email at leminem@juno.com or private messaging.

If you can save $100 you probably wouldn't care about the differences unless you're an insanely picky audiophile.

Until you went to your friends house and heard what they sound like. 100 bucks on speakers is nothing. You either want the best and pay a little more or you settle for less. Just go for it, I say. These are small differences between the two brands. PC Gamer even proclaimed that Logitech's are eq'd for "fun" whereas the Klipsch's are more natural and realistic sounding. I've got the pair and when I close my eyes I feel like i'm in a recording studio. These bridge the gap between computer audio and home audio. And actually true audiophiles hate Klipsch for their sound quality. Read any hard-core home theater magazine or website.

Also, when I bought mine, they were 190 and I never shed a tear once I heard the sound of John Cusacks feet making the flooboards in the movie creak and the door lock click shut.

Apples and oranges comparison here. They're in different price ranges. It's like comparing a Sony speaker to a Martin Logan. The Z2200 isn't the best, there's always something better. However, let's just say that in the price range, Klipsch cannot, nor can any other computer speaker manufacturer, compete with this Z2200 system.
