I have to wonder why he had it towed to his house, it's not like he's going to fix it, or even salvage any parts.

because he still has 67 more payments on it and Insurance won't touch it. Might as well have a nice paperwieght.
Seriously that guy is screwed. Not to mention the evidence posted on a website somewhere... Notice they don't even have a garage but they have a corvette? hmm...

You can get an insurance company to cover mods. When I was in high school a car hit me and totaled my customized truck. At first all they wanted to do was give me book value for a an 82 S-10 ie. not much, but after my mom showed them all the receipts and argued with the for a week or more they caved and gave us a much higher amount, plus we got to keep the truck for parts. Note this was not my fault and it was the other guys insurance, but I think I would turn it in. If they say anything then argue with them for awhile. If you lose just give them the money back. No harm in trying.

I was never paying for mods, but then again it was not my insurance that had to pay out but the other guys that did.

Unless he was paying for those mods in his insurance premiums (which he wasn't, he never reported them), they won't pay for any damage caused by them, nor will they give him the cost of them.

Insurance will typically cover modifications if they are damaged during normal street use, but no street insurance I know of will cover damages that occur during track use. I've talked with my agent about this issue for my 951 since it had a larger turbo and is running 16 PSI instead of 12 PSI.
