Z-5500s vs. Z-680s

What do you guys think? It's about a $100 price difference, for seemingly similar products. What do the Z-5500s have on the Z-680s that I'm not seeing? Or is there a major difference? Discuss!

The Z-5500 has a bigger subwoofer, its 10" vs 8". For Logitech tho, bigger might not be better...I might prefer to pay $100 NOT to have the bigger, boomier sub 😛

Also, I believe the Z-5500s fixed the problem of significant satellite hiss...that was the main thing holding down the Z-680s, in fact you could say the Z-680s were a faulty product. I've had them for years and I spent more times listening to my headphones than the Z-680s. The hiss is very loud, its about 30-40db which is in the range a CPU fan. running at 1,500rpm.

If I had to get a Logitech, I'd say the $100 was worth it, just for the hiss issue (it's very pervalent). However, I don't think I'd ever drop only $200-250 and hope to get a decent 5.1 setup. I think anything below $500 you won't get a system that satisfactory in both music and gaming... Something like a Creative S750 or a Fluance HT set with an AV receiver is on my my mind )

I have Z-680s with almost no hiss. You have to turn it up at its highest volume w/ windows volume at highest to really make out a hiss

Lucky you.

Unfortunately this is an extremely well documented problem, so hoping you get one of the fixed versions may be just pipe, especially from online sources that don't move a lot of volume and are probably just holding onto older stock.

alright well thanks for the tips... my z-680s are on the way but I'm pretty sure I can find a sucker to sell them too under the "1000w peak power" banner around here locally if I have a bad hiss 😛

1. Better poly in the z-5500's
2. Reduced distortion (less hiss)
3. Improved tweeter for dynamically better highs
4. 2" larger sub 10" vs. 8"
5. DTS 96/24 (not available on z680)

These are the advantages the z-5500's have over the z-680's
