Z-5450 Speaker Problems - Loud defening thumping

I hooked up these speakers to my TV today using the optical out, and there is one problem I have with them. When the scene on tv has a lot of bass coming out, the speakers make these loud defening short bursts sorta like when a microphone is close to a speaker. Anyone know how I can get rid of these sounds?

Should I just get a new set from Amazon?

You're TV has an optical out?

Some with integrated digital tuners or DVD players would have that (or digital coaxial)

Mysteriouskk, do you have another digital source that you could connect to make sure it's a problem with the speakers and not the TV output?

I'm using the Cox digital DVR, and I think the only option is a SPDIF or Composite. There is no Coax input. Should I buy a mini plug to composite or whatever type cable and try that? Or should Amazon just send me another set of speakers?

SPDIF can be digital coaxial or digital optical.

Is your DVR your source for audio and not your TV?

There is no coax input on what?

What are you planning on using that proposed adapter for?

My DVR is the source for my audio. and there is no coax inputs on either the DVR or TV. The adapter is a miniplug to the red white cable, so that I can hook the speakers to a TV.
