Yuengling beer is cheaper than Miller lite?!

JEDI

Lifer
my local bar has happy hr specials.
lite beer (bud/miller/coors) and Yuengling are $2 bottles.

i looked up how much it is at my local alcohol distributer.
24pack miller lite is $20.
24pack Yuengling is $18 😱

a full bodied beer thats cheaper than a lite.
and i like Yuengling better than Miller lite.

Must be a regional thing. Have never seen Yuengling at bars or stores in CA. Stone Brewing is big around here in SoCal.

Mainly distributed in the east and south; think they are just getting started in TX.

Many years ago when I went to school in PA it was a local offering only I believe.

That brand is actually the last beer I had before quitting drinking (and no the taste of it wasn't the reason I quit 😛 ).

I had never heard of it before, and when I was back in Ohio I went to some old high school friend's house to talk about the glory days, and that's the beer they had and had apparently drank for years. We put quite a few away sitting around the fire pit that night, and I have to say the beer was pretty damn good.

yuengling is glorious. not because it is especially good, but because it is never bad, not particularly difficult to find, and not that expensive

Their headquarters is in Pottsville, PA. They do brewery tours with a free beer sampling at the end of it 🙂

I guess that it's still a "regional" beer for now, as you can only get it on the east coast. They're planning on expanding nationally, though.

Ummmmm. You can't get it west of Indiana I think. So for more than half the country, it sure the hell is "particularly difficult to find." 😉

I liked it as an alternative to shitty beer like Bud and Miller. Now that I drink quality beer, I find Yeungling "not good". It's almost okay if my other options are mass-produced crap beers but I certainly would not order it unless I had too.

In this day and age, if you are drinking the swill produced by Miller, Coors, or whoever the hell makes Bud, you simply are not trying at all. I am not saying to go out and drink some bizarre concoction of oat-yogurt-cofee stout aged in used Jack Daniel's barrels, but there most certainly is a bottle or can of some quality beer almost anywhere that has a liquor license. There are plenty of lagers that even people who drink Bud Light can enjoy. Try just a tiny bit harder or stick to beer that tastes like water used to wash dirty socks.

I used to grab cases of Yuengling for some people when I was driving out to Colombus, honestly I didn't see the appeal over other domestic beers seemed just as bad. Scarcity always makes people want stuff more tho, kind of reminds me of New Glarus in WI.

Yuengling Lager on tap is delicious. It's just not as good in a can.
Wrap your head around this one....the green glass bottle actually skunks the beer a little (UV light does that). The can has a cleaner taste than bottle IMHO....draft is going to vary by bar. Sometimes those beer lines aren't clean and the kegs aren't always the optimal temperature, but generally speaking, it's always going to be a better beer on draft than in the bottle and possibly better than in the can.

they weren't allowed to sell in ohio for a long time, which made my buddy who moved to PA and then back to ohio mad

To be fair I actually am quite fond of ice-cold regular Miller in bar-bottles which for whatever reason has a much fresher/fuller flavor then the regular stuff. (aka: "a tall blonde" back in the day)

OTOH I like every variety of Yuengling especially the dark ones. 🙂

What makes it good, is it's good. It's what a basic macrobrew should be, but somehow none are. If you want a beer, it's a beer. It isn't challenging, complex, or sophisticated, and you never open one up, and think "This isn't quite the flavor I was going for". It's always fine, and sometimes fine is good enough.

Their Fort Worth, TX brewery just came online last week. They will be distributing their beer across Texas and the south starting this summer.
