Um, one post from one random person on a message board is not a recall. If this was really true, it would be talked about in more than one place, and there would be an official announcement from the manufacturer.

My friend bought one, he had nothing bug problems with it and it nearly fried his P4. He called up the vendor and they had numerous returns with that fan, so he just went to a local place to buy a fan. At this point, I wouldn't buy one, I'll stick the regular ones for now.

Oops. Well I hope I got a version post-recall. Because I just ordered one at maxcooler.com for $13. Not a great deal, but flat rate shipping let me get a SLK-800 and a heat shim for a pretty decent price.

Anyone else heard anything new?

Be sure to report on how it goes. Somehow I think it'll work just fine. If this was a constant problem, the guys who sell 'em would catch hell constantly.

I had one burn out on me, the edges got extremely hot & the fan wouldn't turn on.

HeatSink Factory replaced it with no problems, the second one's been working fine since.

But maybe I should e-mail them & see what's up.

The technology seems worth it to me. Most of the heat is concentrated at the center of a heatsink because that is where the CPU is located under it. Those fans allow more air to flow through that portion of the heatsnink. This should theoretically reduce CPU temparatures. They are also supposed to be quiet, which is a definite plus. If they have current problems, then wait until the technology evolves a little bit and then jump on the bandwagon. =)
