strive to perfect what they call the "pulse and glide" driving method, which requires sensitivity when pushing or releasing the accelerator

I dunno about you guys, but if I'm driving a car I wouldn't enjoy trying to think about how to specifically push on the accelerator while driving.

Sounds like too much work :p

I want 116 mpg from a v8 with 400hp.

And honestly, I bet they could do a lot with modulated fuel delivery - where no matter how you stomp on the pedal, the car gets only the minimum amount of fuel to accelerate. Most cars these days don't have a physical throttle cable anyway - it's electronic already, just add some super fuel-frugal logic to the computer.

Add a toggle button to go between "Fuel Saver" mode and "Listening to White Zombie" mode and you'll be set.

1000 miles on a 13 gallon tank is 76 MPG. they suck at teh maths. that's probably with a plug-in boost, too. everyone gets all hot on their modded prius like it magically gets some outrageous mileage figure, and they conveniently "forget" the energy they put in when they plugged it in. it's no more valid than the posted in-town figures that don't take into account energy drained from the batteries and not replenished from the gas tank during the course of the test (meaning the car used more energy than the test accounts for).
