Honestly I wouldn't use adblockers if modern internet ads weren't so ridiculously annoying. The shit these people come up with is insane. To be honest 6 second ads don't bother me. What bothers me is when ads are disproportional to the length of the video that I'm watching. A 6 second ad for a 2 minute video is fine, but a 30 second ad for a 2 minute video is ridiculous. But to be fair YouTube really isn't as bad as some sites are. Having videos blaring in another tab or some other annoying shit when I'm not even watching videos.

Internet ads (for non video websites) should be like they were in 2004. A few banners with some animation and usually silent. Pop ups weren't even a big issue then unless you looked at alot of porn. Video related websites can either charge a small fee or run breif occasional ads that are in proportion to the video. Alot of people probably wouldn't bother with ad blockers if this were the case. I only started using them a few years ago.

I have a felling an Adblocker won't be able to block this sort of Ad. Perhaps they append the Ad to the video its self. If this is the case then something needs to download and buffer the video, going forward 6 seconds.

I don't believe in the Ad philosophy with websites. Those that have a quarter in Internet know how block the Ads. To those that don't know how or simply don't block Ads get what amounts to is a Vegas like circus on their computer screen with the added benefit of winning the lotto and having an AD serve you malware. I think websites should use the donation system. That's what I use on my own site. I think you might be surprised at how many people are willing to give a few cents or bucks here and there. Of course such a system needs to be easy and pain free from using. Currently PayPal is what most use for donations and that is what I use. But perhaps a secure addon like Authy can deploy a one click payment to a website with little user input. You could use Bitcoin, PayPal,Google Wallet, any number of funding sources.

Just my 2 cents. :)

Edit- I should clarify my Authy addon sentence. And addon built as secure as the Authy addon for donations.

Seriously, 30 second YouTube ads don't bother me, I can go look at another tab while waiting. It's the videos in non-video web pages. Gotta play, find the effing video blasting at full volume.

Ya. Allrecipes recently started doing that. Sometimes with 3 or 4 Ads, that can't be paused/muted/volume adjusted, and sometimes 2 Ads play at the same time. o_O

ABP is just wonderful:)God the bs that whores itself on this forum and Facebook alone warrants ABP but ad-free Youtube is just the giggles.:)Sucks some porn sites throw a fit if you enable ABP as if you want a billion distractions as you look at hooters.Don't need tutors, oversized fake hooters or computers all over the place outside the damn video lol.

The ads for Hardware on this site is nice i will admit, but i always buy from Newegg and most stuff on here is just out of my league as far as what i would buy anyways.:(

Mostly stopped using YouTube at all once it became clear how ruthless Google are about tracking everyone. Likewise I try not to use their search engine if I can avoid it (which I sometimes can't).

What irked me about YouTube was realising they don't only track you if you have an account and are logged in, or by means of cookies - which is sort-of what you expect these days - but that they also cross-reference it to your IP address, to track you even without being logged in or allowing cookies. That's just getting into stalker territory, in my opinion.

Best I can do is mix it up a bit and use different companies for different things, as its not any one bit of data that bugs me, but what really bothers me is the idea that one entity is putting all this different information (search history, video viewing, emails, your personal details from your email account, etc) together and cross-referencing it all.

Edit - I don't actually care about ads as such, except, as others said, about video ads on non-video pages.

Sounds like a reason to not use that site anymore. If you annoy me enough ill find alternatives.

Forbes.com : "We see you're using an adblocker... so no content for you. But if you want to keep using it you can pay us a subscription."

Guess which site I don't go to anymore.

Six seconds isn't long enough to bother with.

My wife says the same thing... :(

Never heard of this.
You know why it's six seconds? Because visitors will cancel content load in six seconds, if it doesn't appear. Due to this measure of visitor patience, they figure they can dither around with an ad for 6 seconds, before delivering your request.

I wouldn't mind. Most of the videos I watch are rather long.

Why would I want to spend $10 a month on Red? So I can watch videos off line? I have You Tube Mate on Android, or Clip Grabber for my laptop for that. So I can watch videos of Pewds? Not interested.

I'm just tired of being nickle and dimed to death. $2 here. $5 there. $10 a month. It adds up. For me, it's not even worth it.

6 second adds don't bother me. YT needs revenue and this might be their best solution to date.

6 people on a $15/mo Google Play subscription = $2.50/mo. I use Google Play extensively...Red is just a bonus.

I rarely watch YT so the ad don't bug me too much, it is a auto "next" that bug me. One time I forgot to close to tab and it played 10hrs of crap, it killed my usage that month.

Firefox browser with uBlock, or root the tablet, and use Adaway.
