YouTube supports 8k videos now!

Is it even possible to buy a 8k monitor? Even 4k are not really that common for some reason.
Shockingly, quite a few people have 8k televisions today.
Which is funny when you hear people whining about taxes and the cost of healthcare and gasoline and other things.
But whatever, humans are dumb.

This is silly. I suppose all those YouTubers that invested in 8k Red Pros are finally justified. I always thought 8k TVs where, mainly, just a marketing pitch.

You could say the same of 4k. Or HD.
But people buy TV's and players anyway.

8K is the Blu-ray of video formats...

Yeah, it's a bit better than 4K, but...eh....honestly...1080p is good enough for me.

it <almost> makes sense since newer cell phones allow you to record in 8K.
Though watching it in 8k is a problem for most people...

4k and 8k make more sense as a computer monitor due to the increased real estate, but for whatever reason it seems it's always TVs that get it first. Anything past HD is practically useless for a TV. Given how cheap 4k TVs are I would buy 4k if I did need a new TV but otherwise I won't buy just to upgrade an existing TV. I might actually wait till 8k TVs come down in price which shouldn't be long then use one as a monitor since even the 4k monitors are so expensive compared to the TVs. 4k TV as monitor is not enough pixel density for it's size but 8k would be pretty awesome. That's like having 16 regular monitors.

But as far as consuming video content it's practically useless as there's hardly no content and even if there was there is a point of diminishing returns. HD is pretty much the sweet spot especially for TV as you are sitting further.

monitors they make sense.

Can your eyes even tell apart 8k for TVs? What about actual bitrate and compression? What's the point of how many dots you have on your screen when the content is not dot-for-dot perfect?

People buy 4k TV's and then hook them up to the PC. I recommend a 40" but they are hard to come by now.

So I guess people will buy 8k TV's and hook them up to the PC.

That's pretty much the only reason I would buy an 8k TV. In a way I'm kinda glad they are a thing... monitors are so behind in terms of resolution, I might just end up doing that when I decide to upgrade. 55" 8k mounted on the wall right at the end of the desk.

Tv refresh rate is too low for computer use. I decided refresh rate is more important so I went with 34" 1440p

Watching a few of the 8k ones on YouTube on my 40" 4k ips TV. Nice and crisp looking. 4k videos look great too on the same TV but the 8k ones have the edge for sharpness. Which makes sense I guess. So I checked on the net if that sounds right and they said yes it makes sense 8k played on a 4k screen would look better. So I guess it's not just my imagination.
