YouTube streaming causes HDD to run hard.

I have a dual core laptop with a crap Intel video card.
Most of the time, when I watch a YouTube video, my HDD light comes on and "crunches" hard for almost the entire video, sometimes stalling the computer until the video catches back up.
The audio will continue, but the computer freezes while the HDD light is solid.

Why do YouTube videos use the HDD so much?

It is streaming data that goes to your Temporary Internet Files. Streaming video is a huge amount of data. Sometimes it can exceed the capacity of your system - so it pauses, then starts again.
