I just use the clea.nr youtube browser extension. *shrug*

And a crapton of adblock utilities running on my router.

And a video/audio downloader extension.

I'll save my $10/month for Netflix.

I'd like to know how much goes to the video creators/providers. I'd pay $10 a month if they disclosed how much went to google, and it wasn't 90%+. I'd like to see a credit, where google gets ~$2-$3, and the rest is distributed through a [Tip] button to channels you especially like. Remaining balance at the end of each month gets distributed to untipped channels watched.

Same. I watch a TON of Youtube, for everything from entertainment to how-to's, and I wouldn't mind not having any ads (without having to run browser cheats), especially if a good amount of the money went to the content creators. Especially when you just want to watch a clip on your TV or smartphone and you have to sit through a stupid ad haha.

lol they knew what they were doing when they chose "red".

They will probably sue Redtube later for trademark infringement.

If I had to guess, I'd say YouTube will track where an ad would have played, and just pay the content provider the same as if you watched an ad on their channel. I just don't see any need for them to make it more complicated than that, but who knows.

$5.50 goes to content creators, YouTube keeps $4.50. If you watch one particular channel 50% of the time, that channel will get $2.75 or half of the $5.50. With increasing usage of adblockers, content creators and YouTube will lose money (people won't have much incentive to make videos anymore).

What kind of adblocking on your router? Outside of a list of banned addresses (and I wouldn't know where to get such a list), I'm completely unaware of any methods within a router?

That's not /terrible/. Google gets less than half.

Bolded is patently nonsense. Nothing would have ever been made if people required payment to do anything. People do things because they want to. People that do them skilfully, will be rewarded by the people that appreciate it.

I've never understood the search in YouTube. It seems like the furthest thing from Google, because if I want a particular video it's like swimming in an ocean of shit. Unless someone links a Youtube, I never watch anything on it.

From what I've heard, YouTube people make more from product placement and sponsorship than views. Instagrammers, which don't have ads from what I've seen, make money with 50k+ subscribers, apparently.

If you get a million views, it's like $1 to $3 per 1000 so $1000 to $3000 per million. You'd need 7 million views to equate to minimum wage where I live -- that's not including expenses to make the videos.

not a bad side income though, especially if the videos are low cost and don't take a lot of time

Ya, that's the hard part. Once you're established and have a following, you can essentially print money. If you're young and hot, 30 second video of you smoking... profit. Do one of the dozens of online challenges or fads right now? Profit. Cost of cinnamon is $5 a container?

My money's on most people being too cheap to pay $10 for no ads. I'm one of them...
