TOKYO, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Google Inc.'s (GOOG.O: Quote, Profile, Research) YouTube.com removed 29,549 video files from its popular Web site after receiving a demand from a group of Japanese media companies over copyright infringement, an industry group said on Friday.

The television, music and movie clips had been posted without the permission of copyright holders, the Tokyo-based Japan Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers said in a statement.

The group, which represents 23 media companies including TV networks and movie distributors, said it would ask YouTube to set up screening and other measures to block postings of unauthorised files. It also called on Internet users not to post video clips in violation of copyright laws.

YouTube, which serves more than 100 million videos a day on its free Web site, has drawn complaints from some copyright owners, as the site says it can't track which videos are pirated.

YouTube officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Soon, there may as well not be a youtube. Once all the "censored" stuff is removed, and the copyright holders file their comlaints, the only videos left will be the ones already at Google Video.

Not true. There is a lot more to YouTube than the TV show ripping and posting. There is a whole community of people who make their own videos to post, which would never go on Google Video because it lacks any community aspect.
 
This is what all the experts said would happen if they got bought out. YouTube is full of copyrighted videos that are posted there illegally. No one bothered to sue them or anything before because they had nothing to sue. Now that Google owns them, they are wipe open waiting for the lawsuits.

Hopefully the comply real fast to get the illegal videos off there.
