Woah I just assumed it was just me. Ironicly was starting to edit a youtube video, and was going to watch random videos while I wait for some files to process.

The site is up, but it does not load anything.

It's interesting since the site "loads", but then it does not load any content. Also, some videos actually do work.

Edit: NM, now it's really dickered!

These are the times I'm glad I'm not in IT anymore. :p I would hate to be on the Youtube IT team at this moment.

Yeah something that happened before, but suppose it could be the same sort of thing happening. Everybody is trying to censor internet these days. Could even be the US this time, one ISP might be experimenting with "fast lane" plans now that net neutrality is gone, and it went very wrong and corrupted the BGP routes or something. Just a wild guess though. Probably something at Youtube's end.

Yeah it is surprising. I bet for every minute that it's down, somebody is getting fired lol.

Though in reality what probably happened is their NOC probably got notified so now they need to call in techs to come look at the issue, so it's not like there's a team on standby to fix issues like this off hours. I imagine at this point they probably have techs looking at it though, but it's not like it's instant as soon as they find out there's an issue.

The explanation is going to be interesting. I doubt its a ddos as holy crap how big would it have to be.

Yeah definitely some kind of major failure, I'm guessing a part of the system that is a single point of failure. Even in a clustered setup I don't think you can truly get away from that, as traffic has to start somewhere before it then gets routed to the cluster or whatever. So maybe a major router or load balancer or controller or something that failed. I don't know exactly how these things are setup so I could be off. Definitely will be interesting to find out.
