Google released the YouTube app for iOS. I have an iPad 3 and I was pretty excited to download and try it out since I loathe the stock YouTube app, which is going away with the iOS 6 update coming very soon.

But I didn't expect this, the YouTube app is for the iPhone. On the iPad you have to press the 2x button. It doesn't even completely fill the screen when watching videos in full screen mode. This is truly disappointing from Google. I hope they have an iPad version coming soon too.

Why exactly is it disappointing?
The YouTube app released today is an iPhone app, not an iPad app.

Google never advertised it as such(an iPad app), so why are you complaining when you're not using the product as recommended?

I was disappointed because it wasn't an iPad or universal version. In this day an age I just assumed a universal version was coming.

I can understand free apps being universal. I realize this has nothing to do with it, but what really bothers me are those greedy developers that make 2 apps/games/whatever and market them as iPad version/HD, etc.. Seriously, just make one app universal. Stop trying to milk people to buy your app on two devices that run the same OS.

Anyway, I used the YouTube app today. It's pretty much a replica of the Android version... That is to say it's amazing of course.

Yeah, the YouTube app for iPhone looks really nice. Glad to see it's just like the Android version.

And thanks for the information ChronoReverse. I didn't see the press release, just heard about the app in a podcast, so just grabbed what was in iTunes and got surprised. I'm much relieved an iPad version will be coming soon. Though, even the iPhone version is a nice improvement over the stock YouTube app on my iPad right now. :)

I see where you're coming from, however I'm not too much in favor of the "Jack of all trades, master of none" approach.
I would prefer 2 different apps that highlight the strengths of each platform exclusively over one that does neither or becomes a bloated hog.

It's a free app, so there is nothing to lose.
Now if it was a paid app, then yes because I definitely won't pay for the same app twice.
I don't care if it's a new HD vs. non-HD edition upgrade.
