call me old fashioned or a pig i really dont care.

My son is almost 9 and he has been in some sort of youth sport since he was 5. He did play basketball for two seasons and there were girls on him team, i had no problem with this.

last year he did wrestling and he had 3 girls on his team, i have a huge problem with this. if girls want to wrestle they they should wrestle girls. you could see it on the boys face when they were on the mat and faced off with a girl. the girls did win a few matches and i know for a fact they were won because the boy did not want to put the girl in a hold where he was touching the private areas on girl. as a father of 2 girls i would never ever put them on a wrestling team its just not right or proper.

the other sport i have a problem with is Baseball. He is playing baseball for the first time this summer and he has 4 girls on his team. my reason for not liking it is just that i think baseball should be a boys sport only. Last night there was a game on the diamond next to us. the kids were in the 13-14 age group and one team had two girls. like i said Baseball should be a boys sport.

what do you think? im I too old fashioned?

As far as the wrestling goes, you may have some sembelence of a point related to social issues, but really, just because people have "private areas" that are different they can't wrestle each other? That's just silly.

You just seem piggish on the baseball topic. It's a boy's sport, but with no justification as to why it should be a boy's sport other than you want to exclude girls from some private affair.

With a sport like wrestling I can kinda understand where you are coming from, but baseball i dont see a problem with, unless there is a softball league that they could play in etc. But overall if the kid wants to do it, dont see how it matters.

I think girls should be able to play whatever sports they wish, but on separate teams from the boys.

So you'd rather your son was fondling another dude's junk instead of girl parts? Interesting...

Personally, I can see where you're coming from on the wrestling issue, but at that young an age, I have to imagine sex isn't really that big a concern (certainly not as much as "you got beat up by a girl!"). Baseball though? Not to be punny, but you're way off base skipper.

Youth sports I think girls should be able to play on same teams. Once they are into high school the sex differences become more apparent and they need different teams. Some sports (like wrestling) the girls should be allowed to play with guys because there would never be enough to make a girls team.

If the girls are good enough to play with the boys, I don't see a problem with it......though I can understand it a bit more once they hit puberty and sex is involved.

wrestling yes, baseball no.

Think of it this way. Wrestling should be easy to have only girls as it is a 1 on 1 sport.

Baseball is tougher because you have a min of 11-15 on a team generally. And Most girls with baseball would just play softball instead. So I'd say Baseball is easily a mixed gender sport.

In youth sports, being good is never a requirement.

I don't really agree with the OP that baseball needs to be a boys-only sport, but I have to wonder what the parents are thinking. They may be able to play now, but they're never going to be able to compete when they get older. They'll never make the team in high school (unless they're extraordinarily good for a girl). Might as well have them play softball, a sport that they'll be able to continue playing for years.

They should be able to play any sport if they can make the team. Goes for both boys and girls.

Yep, wrestling is crossing the line as far as I'm concerned, but any non-contact team sport (like baseball, softball, basketball etc), I don't see any issues.

If I wrestled a girl who was smoking hot I could imagine a nasty situation with a tight cup and the natural occurrence in a male who is sexually aroused.

On the Wrestling issue I can see your point to a degree on the baseball issue I think you are WAY off base at least in regards to youth leagues,I have seen many girls at that age that could play better than a lot of the guys on the team. As they get older there is a wider gap but I still don't think it would be the end of the world for some girls to play on High School baseball teams I mean have you ever seen some of the female softball teams play? You sound like you have the potential to be the sports parent from h*ll all you are concerned with is winning.

Again, in youth sports you don't have to make the team. You make the team by signing up.

yeahhhh

Jenny Finch and others pretty much dispel any notion that girls shouldn't be playing baseball/softball.

I have rolled with girls in jiu jitsu and this is not an issue, thoughts like that never even cross my mind....though if they are around puberty it is perhaps less "controllable"

I don't know why I took that as intramural sports.

Then I agree with OP on wrestling but no on baseball.

There was a 12 or 13 year old girl here in Portland who'd put up 40+ points against boys teams at a private gym (she's 6'2"). So of course the sore loser parents of the boys got her kicked off. They said she did so well because their kids were afraid to foul her or something.

Never mind that she'd put up double that against same-age girls teams. Stupid.

I agree with the wrestling but your point on baseball is terrible.

There were tons of girls on my youth baseball/basketball/soccer teams and it was never a problem. It did become a problem on the football teams but the one girl stopped playing freshman year likely because of the endless teaching. She turned around and showed everybody by growing up to be scorching hot.
