your work day: what kind of shift do you prefer?

vote on the poll.

(if you have a 9-5 job, assume that the first one is 7-3 and the second one is 9-5. it really doesn't matter.)

story:

i recently changed my shift so that our IT department to get more coverage during the day. i'm the only one here at the moment, which enables me to do a fair amount of work and ... a bit of play (seriously, i get more accomplished when there aren't people running around with questions).

anyway, i'm starting to realize that this schedule is nicer than my original 8:30-5 shift for those reasons, and it's always nice to leave work when everyone else still has an extra 2 hours :D

it also gives me more time to do stuff in the evening, which is a plus.

despite the fact that i am NOT a morning person, i'm really not minding this at all. (i also try to go to bed earlier)

if given the choice, what would you prefer?

6:30-3:00

the sunset is ~5:30, and will be ~4:30 at it's worst this winter. As much as I'd like to be working during the day, and coming home in the dark, I'll take the earlier shift. helps for morale.

best shift ever: 10a - 2p haha

I prefer 7-3.30 but right now I work 8-5 (1 hour lunch) and at first I didn't like the hour lunch thing but now I really am starting to like this whole coming home for lunch business.

2:30pm to 11pm(swing shift) is my favorite. It works with my natural schedule perfectly. I don't have to force myself to go to bed or get up.

Get up at 1pm, go to work.. get off at 11pm, stay up till 5am.. rinse, repeat. Perfect!

I could do graveyard shift too.

Day shift just does not work for me. I can't ever force myself to go to bed at like 10pm.

I use to like 3rd shift, was 9 PM to 5 AM for years. Now at the new job i'm 7 AM to 3 PM, never thought i'd like it but I do. Lotsa time to accomplish something in the afternoon :)

exactly. two weeks ago, i'd be saying what most of the other people say ("9-5 is great!"), but once you get acclimated to this kind of schedule, it's great.

I work 7-4 so starting at 6:30 wouldn't be much different. I'd rather have more time after work than extra time in the morning.

I work 5:30-2. Considering I work Sunday that's the only real PITA day, but otherwise, I like early hours - lets you get some stuff done in the afternoon.

12:30PM-9:00 PM.

I love it. No traffic. Get to sleep in. Get to work out without rushing things in the AM. Get to do errands in the morning during normal business hours.

And when I get home, I still have a couple hours to spend with my wife and can go to bed at a reasonable time.

Also the added 10% shift diff is a great.

It's the perfect shift to me.

My only regret is that I don't get to eat dinner with my wife through the week, but with her residency schedule this year, we weren't doing that very often any way.

i select option # 2 please. thank you very much.

i don't believe i would be able to work any other shift now. been 8-4 for about 6 1/2 years now. if i had to switch, i would get too crusty and have a tantrum.

I liked 8-5 when I did it this summer, but I didn't like the commute. Hour each way, so it was really like 7-6.

I'm a big third-shift fan. If I could choose, I would work midnight to 8:00 am. Too bad that's not an option.

I like working 9-5, but then again I never took an earlier shift so I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it more.

8-4... I don't think I could wake up that early... and I HATE sleeping early.
