Ever notice how your keyboard gets really really dirty after 2, 3, even 4 years?

I never really think about the keyboard. It's one of those pieces of hardware that's pretty cheap (like $10) and really gets most of the physical abuse!

Does anyone have any really great keyboard stories to share? Anyone do any keyboard modding? I've tricked out mine, did a few v-mods and even overclocked the crap out of it!

Nah, but seriously, who cares about the keyboard anymore!!! I DO!!! Anyone else loving these durable little critters like me?
 
The ultimate keyboard is the IBM Model M. Google it. Never dies. The keyboard I'm typing on right now is in excess of 10 years old and still works as well as the day it was new.
 
WOW, I used to have one of those. If I knew that I could sell it for $75 today (vintage 1988) I would have kept it around.

ACTUALLY, I might have it in the basement somewhere. But I'd have to check. I'll take a screenie if I find it!

I hate keyboards now, they are all *silent*. I like the old ones that go..."tika-tika-tika-tika-tika-tika-tika..." when you type.

I hate loud keyboards. I'm having problems finding one quiet enough for me.
 
I wish you could have the option for the clicky-clicky sound on a modern keyboard.

Maybe offer it as a little switch on the side that you could switch on and off as you please.

I liked the old clicking keyboards because they felt really good. The noise wasn't so good sometimes, but I can type way faster on the ones that click.

Dang! You beat me to it. One of my friends has had one of those sitting around his house for as long as I can remember. When I built my new PC up he sold it to me for $2 and I love the thing. It weighs quite a bit and the keys have a nice clicking sound. A great, great keyboard. I'll use it as long as it works.
 
The current keyboard is based on a design of keys that were created by manufacturers back in the day of the typewriter (like you didn't know that already). The original placement of keys on the typewriter resulted in secretaries typing so fast that the hammers used to get stuck, so the secretaries spent more time fixing the typewriter than typing. To fix this problem, instead of creating a better product, the manufacturer re-arranged the keys to make the typer type slower. One of the reasons why it's actually painful to your hands/fingers if you type alot.
Just some pointless info. 🙂

So is the Dvorak layout better on your hands and speed then?
 
Another vote for the IBM Model "M". I have two of them in MINT condition. One has the BLUE IBM logo. I hear that is a more spill proof design. They are loud but I live alone so don't have to worry about distrubing anyone but me or my cats. I can type maybe 10WPM or more faster on the Model M than on most new Quiet and flimsly new keyboards, The only other keyboard that clicks and I can fly on is the older ADB Deluxe Mac keyboard. It's also real big and farily heavy but the IBM "M" is the best I have ever used. Will NEVER let them go as long as I can plug them in!!
 
Supposedly there's a small program out there (I haven't tried it so don't know what it is) that "emulates" the clicks on keyboards.
 
I use the newer IBM Active Response Keyboards. I actually ordered a new one from newegg two weeks ago because the no longer make the black version of this keyboard. I think its one of the best keyboards in the market... I swear by it...

That's so cool! You'd think a lot of companies spend thousands or tens of thousands of dollars in designing a "silent" keyboard so that they can market some kind of leap in technology and then people design programs that revert us back to horse and carriage!

I love this world. 🙂
 
The keyboard is one of the places with highest concentration of bacterias in a house.

I remember that one of my friend had a "keyboardsaver" (as opposed to a screensaver) it could make Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock blink in different modes. 🙂

No. You are wrong. 🙂

Try the IBM Trackpoint II. It's like a Model M, but with the little laptop trackpoint widget on it too. (Plus, it even has a PS/2 mouse pass-through port, although it doesn't support the scroll-wheel commands of newer mice.) These things are bloody heavy enough to knock someone's head clean off, too, if the need ever arose.
 
I like my laptop key board =) I also like my Logitch Elite Key board, it gets dirty fast though , I think its cause I eat over it 🙂
