What is your view towards the new 790FX chipset board. I saw from the VR Zone site and they have two new version M3A32-MVP Deluxe WiFi-AP and the M3A. Is it a good board to get? And how is the new AMD Phenom CPU performing? Should I wait for a while to get this OR should I just get the P35 or the X38 chipset board now?

Advice please.

Dear Chad,

as far as I can tell, the Phenom is not out yet.

The Barcelona core socket 1207/Socket F CPU is out in small quantities:

The Phenom is the desktop socket AM2+ CPU:

On the 20th of November AMD is due to release its Phenom X2, X4 and FX desktop processors and as surely as night follows day, that means that new AMD and nVidia chipsets will also hit the streets.

The 790 boards look good on (electronic) paper:

If you need to upgrade now, no doubt you have read many other threads here:

p35 board + Q6600 for quad core power, or, one of the lower priced Intel CPUs, and overclock it.

Are you interested in CrossFire? If not, get P35 and Core 2 Duo/Quad. If yes, it's worth waiting.

Phenom 9-Series (quad-core): November 2007
Phenom 7-Series (tri-core): March 2008
Athlon 6-Series (dual-core): Q2 2008
