I remember reading about this on slashdot a few weeks ago and everyone commenting about how ugly it was and who the heck would want to use that, lol

Now all we need are transporters, holodecks, warp power, and food replicators :)

And if anybody can do it, it sounds like that company could...their conference rooms are named after Kirk, Spock, and Picard! How awesome is that?

NO, Holodecks would never be allowed to go into production. It would destroy society. You couldn't drag me out of one of those things.

It would also probably wreck more than a few marriages;)

But in what order?

I think the replicator would be the most significant thing: no more scarcity issues means the death of capitalism and money.

I think we should follow the Star Trek order. Replicators, Warp Power, transporters, then holodecks. Replicators to create the parts needed for a warp drive, then the warp drive to provide the power for transporters and holodecks. As it is now, I can foresee transporters coming first simply because we have successfully transported photons, but have yet to actually create something from pure energy (which is what a replicator does).

uh, those things require a tremendous amount of energy to operate...

I still want a cellphone that looks just like the communicators from the original Star Trek series. :( They already have flip-phones, how hard could it be?
