How many product reviews have you personally written on Amazon?
Just curious how active the average user is. I'm at 47. Since 2009.

Just go with Amazon's count. I realize some people's "reviews" are practically comments (due to their brevity).

21 - I purchase almost everything from Amazon Prime so that's a low number based upon my shopping history.

42 and mostly book reviews. I only bother to write reviews for things with few reviews. I don't see much point in doing it if something already has 500 reviews.

My reviews are far more than comments. I usually write extensive reviews, as helpful as possible. I have benefited a lot from other people's reviews. I often read scores of them before making a buy decision. I figure if I can help someone else make an informed decision or help them in using an item they have already bought with a thorough review I'm providing a real and useful public service. I am very conscientious when reviewing items.

I wish ebay were decent in their support of reviews. They have some kind of system in place for some items but I've never figured it out. I don't mean the "feedback," but actual reviews of items. Haven't been able to make sense of ebay's review system, and obviously you can't make comments on other buyer's reviews on ebay like you can on Amazon.

Amazon does drop the ball in some respects in that they lump some items together that should remain separate in terms of reviews. IOW, they will have the same set of reviews tacked onto items that are different. OTOH, they sometimes have different sets of reviews for items that are really the same. I don't think they monitor their review system adequately. Still, in my experience it's the best on the internet in terms of online purchasing review systems. It's one reason I go back to Amazon a ton. I don't always buy there, but if I want to research an online purchase and Amazon has it, I'll investigate the reviews there. I sometimes even leave a review for an item at Amazon that I actually purchased somewhere else, just to help anyone who's in the market for or has already bought the item. I have gone so far as to review Amazon items that I haven't purchased myself (a very few times times) if I think there's something I know that people considering this item should know before purchasing it. I've been flamed for doing so, but I didn't feel that what I did was wrong in pointing out a big caveat.

I'll only review something if I think I have something of real interest to say. Echoing what 20 other people have already said is not a contribution, it can actually be review pollution all in all. I certainly don't review everything I buy on Amazon. Half the time there's no point at all to leaving a review.

Don't feel like logging in, but only a half dozen or so. I usually only write a review if Amazon asks. I also don't shop there that much.

Oh yeah, helpfulness. I have 55 helpful votes.
Good for you, Muse.
I especially appreciate folks who let me know what they paid, where you can get it for less, or the vendor they purchased from. And of course anyone who uploads pics - so I don't have to rely on tiny glamor photos from just the right angle for my assessment.
I've been known to revisit products I purchased a while ago and pore over the reviews - just to see how perceptive reviewers are and whether I can trust them.

Consolidating reviews on similar items boosts the star ratings and creates an illusion of popularity. This is why Amazon does it. At times it actually makes sense to consolidate though. But, if they are going to consolidate, Amazon needs to make it easy for the reader to isolate. The buyer interested in the "Mineral Springs" candle shouldn't have to wade through reviews for "Pumpkin Pie," "Oatmeal Cookie," "Nutmeg Spice," "Cranberry Spice," "Pumpkin Pecan Waffle," "Pumpkin Spice," "Vanilla," and so on. Ridiculous. Where's that filter?

I usually only review something to praise or condemn it. If it's a piece of crap, you're getting a horrible review so I can warn people away from it. If it's awesome, you're getting a stellar review. If it's just a whatever product like dishwasher pods, I'm not going to bother reviewing it.

I usually only remember to review something if it pops up when I'm on Amazon tho, sometimes it reminds me & asks for a review, and if I'm bored & have the time, I'll review it. I buy stuff weekly off Amazon but only have >30 reviews over 10 years or however long I've been on there, so I'm not super active apparently.

You should, especially for ones where there are tons of I received a discount or got the item for free for an "honest" review -- I'm sure the thought of never getting free or discounted shit again didn't factor into your review.

Some of the reviewers at Amazon can be incredibly informative and helpful. I've been turned onto products I didn't know existed by virtue of endorsements in reviews or reviews' comment threads (those discussion threads that spin off of particular customer reviews, one of the stellar features of Amazon reviews). I've read the reviews for some products that just blew me away with the level of understanding, dedication, enthusiasm. Often this to the point where I don't dare add my own review because I know it pales in comparison to the ones already there. Of course, Amazon's product spectrum is beyond astounding. To say it's humongous would disrespect and trivialize it.

One aspect of Amazon reviews deserves comment, being the (I think) fairly recent appearance of many products whose reviews (in particular the 1 to 5 star ratings) are heavily weighted/influenced by the products having been sold to customers at a discount in exchange for them making a positive review. I think those reviews are required to state (at the end, usually is where the statement appears), that the review was written in exchange for the discount. A product that would otherwise aggregate a 4.0 rating might get something like a 4.8 rating by virtue of this IMO reprehensible wrinkle in the Amazon review system. Fortunately, this appears to be only happening occasionally.

IIRC, that's the guy who has written tons of stuff about Eneloop batteries and probably La Crosse chargers on Amazon. Super conscientious reviewer.

19 total reviews with 12 helpful votes. Member since 2002. I order from Amazon often, in the last several years anyway, so that's a low number. I'll only write one if I think I've got something worth sharing; most reviews I see are rather useless.

This actually reminds me I gotta write one for something I just ordered!

300 purchases since 2009, not sure if that's how old my account is or not.

3 reviews, none since 2013, none marked helpful.

I am really getting disappointed with amazon and the review buying that companies are engaging in. Lately I have been keyword searching "honest" "unbiased" "discount", etc. to weed out review buying.

Meh, I'm really wordy & a lot of the stuff I review is niche & only has a few one-liner reviews on it, so there's no magic writing skills going on or anything lol.

Zero, I think. Maybe I would leave one if there were no reviews but then again I probably wouldn't have bought it anyway.
