It's hard to make a list like this, and if I answered next week, I'd probably have them in a different order, or maybe only retain three of these in favor of others forgotten today.
1) Angband (f.k.a. Moria)
2) Half-Life
3) Tribes
4) Aliens vs. Predator 2
5) Grand Theft Auto III (Liberty City, *not* Vice City)
Dang, I feel bad when I get done writing something like this. I'm a gamer, and there are many games I have enjoyed over the years that don't fit in a top 5 list. The above list are the games that I spent more than six months playing regularly (in the case of Angband, closer to 10 years), and if story driven, were completed in their entirety and left me wanting more.
Without trying to make a list that no one will read, I have to mention some other favorites, that just didn't quite fit on the list, or are so new to me that I didn't think it fair to include them while I'm still dazzled:
6) No One Lives Forever 2
7) Diablo II, Lord of Destruction
8) Might & Magic III and IV (Xeen)
9) Blood
10) Halo
