Just got one from BB with the following specs:

P-M 1.5Ghz w/Centrino
15" UXGA
60GB HD
512MB HD
WinXP Pro

I've been a Toshiba laptop owner twice before and didn't have any problems with them at all.

The only thing that I don't really like about this one is the keyboard placement and the mushy keyboard. The HD feels slow, maybe its a 5400 spinner, most likely.

Where does Toshiba ranks among laptop manufacturers? Price is $1900Cdn before tax on this one, which I'd save $2100 rather than going with the T42. I can still return it within 14 days and go for the T42. But I'll see how I like this for now. Must say, the UXGA+ screen is bewtiful :D

Damn, just found out the HD in this thing is only 4200, lol, no wonder it's seems slow. I guess it makes sense as its a Centrino.

I think generally, IBM > Dell > Toshiba...but Toshiba is good compared to many other makers. Btw, the loss of battery life from a 5400 or 7200rpm drive will be negligible--a few minutes. I would've at least gotten a 5400rpm drive. Other than that, seems like a nice purchase :) I'm an IBM fan though...mine is coming in soon...can't wait!

I did a lot of research a year ago when I got my toshiba satellite laptop...

I have found toshibas to just have the best overall features. Dell is too basic, and the style of them i just don't like. ibm is nice, but for the same features at the time, toshiba had the better price.

toshiba's are just very nice with lcds and the layout is perfect.

dell seems like a laptop that you would give someone who did not know a lot about computers and needed something that was basic and not too confusing. i like the little things toshiba has on their laptops....

however, i've had some issues with their repair center... they took 24 days to repair something, but it was due to the systemboard back order. if you ignore the time delay, the quality of work they did was out standing. they fixed things that i didn't even list wrong, such has the hinge not closing perfectly (someone damaged my laptop a few months ago causing this)
