Your thoughts on the Nintendo REvolution design

I think all three look pretty good. It was said in the other thread that the Revolution form factor will get even smaller before production. I think it looks good.

Can anyone explain how MS and Sony can afford to put so much processing power in the XBox 360 and PS3?

the actual consoles are always (from my limited knowledge) sold at a loss.
the real money is made in accessories, online services, and the actual games.

Its a little plain, but overall not bad. Why do all these new consoles have to look so serious? I mean, they play video games, not do your taxes.

The PS3 looks like some kind of miniature oven or laminator or something. The Xbox360 is decent looking, at least.

Cause they are now <echo voice>"digital media centers"</echo voice>. Of the three the PS3 looks the worst IMO. Especially with the egronomic disaster controller design. They've got over a year before release. I seriously hope they do a redesign.

That and production costs will go down over time.

Since you can't upgrade consoles, the key is to be the very best at launch. Being the best means getting more customers, they make money in volume. Every customer will buy another controller or 2, an xbox Live kit, communicator kit, several games... in the end it's not a $150 xbox. A $2 controller sold for $30 is how they make their money, not a $900 console sold for $300 😛

they don't even have to make money on accessories, games, etc. MS and Sony are in a much larger battle at the moment. Consoles are envisioned as the next eveolution of the home PC for those who aren't computer savvy. they are predicted to be the link for almost all media content. that's big business and Sony and MS both want a major stake in that future.

exactly...thats a multi-billion dollar industry thats untapped at the moment.

I love the Revolution design, I hope they don't change it very much before release. 🙂 The ps3 looks terrible imo, the 360 I like as a whole- especially the led circle showing the controller situation.

Well, at least they'll all line up nicely on my shelf since they all can stand vertically as well as horizontally.

the gamecube was never sold at a loss. MS had a real hard time getting the xbox's cost down because they owned pretty much nothing about the hardware. that is why they had to sue nvidia.

i think the revolution looks super cool
