Just wondering if you think i can hold out another 2 years with the new parts like ive done with the old. I would LOVE to go socket 939 or dual CPU and PCIe videocard but i gotta pay the bills + im engaged and getting married in april so moneys gonna be tight! Ill be buying the ram and cpu soon, but the videocard not till around christmas, btw i HAVE to use nvidias 6xxx or up for the SM 3.0 support...its gonna be supported in the game ive been waiting for for MANY years (the elder scrolls: Oblivion)

THANKS!

tiger has a x800xt for about $250 i believe. ati selling refurbed x800xt pe for $221 w/ coupon applied, it comes with the stuff a retail would have i believe. can't argue with the 6800gt since it's agp, though.

unfortunatly i love ati but their current gen cards dont support SM 3.0 🙁 otherwise id stay on this side of the fence...

since you wont be getting everything at the same time, it's best to just upgrade whatever is needed on the date of the hardware coming in the latest.

the ram and cpu should be bought and in within a month or so, but im waiting on the videocard cause i feel mine will get me thru till Oblivions official specs are release and i know what video cards are recommended and such...plus prices will drop a bit on my most expensive part!

No need to buy a new chip. Your current setup should get you at least 2.3Ghz with the right cooling. Better to spend on cooling than new CPU.

Unless you got a crappy 2800+ then you might as well go with A64-M(DTR) and overclock it.

im running at 2.03GHz atm, and may OC my videocard a bit more...im one of those ppl that like higher graphics settings. i guess its because i do digital imaging for a living, but who knows..

Yeah going from a 2800+ to a 3400+ isn't much (from a value perspective). You could likely push your Winchester near 3400+ speed with better cooling...

Wait on the graphics card, if you can. nVidia already dropped retail prices on the 6800 series across the board and ATi is sure to follow.

754 socket , what venice/winchester

just upgrade your ram
if you still feel the need for upgrade then consider the graphic card
but it actually depends on money one can spend,if you can spend you can even go for best
but if you can't then take value point, also, won't oc finish warranty ?
make ram 1gb

if needed take 6800gt or 7800gt ( 399$ may be pcie now though)

also,if you are waiting till christ ,get ram know(if you need to upgrade) ,then think further

i was mainly sticking towards the newcastle..well..because it was really the most recommended cpu from around that speed. i really am not sure what the differnce is between the differnt names other then ive heard that venice produces less heat right? ive always been kinda insecure on my current cpu 2800+ newcastle (was recommened by a friend) feeling i was always bottom of the barrel. several reviewers over at newegg also said they could really tell the difference going from a 3000+ to it...3500 is only a small price difference from what i got so i may consider that as well.

im actually tryin to figure out if ive got enough spare cash laying on me right now to buy the ram today or wait and get it next weekend...no biggy there.

on the videocard i seriously CANNOT buy it until christmas, not just cause of money restrictions but because i have to wait till the specs get out for the MAIN game im gonna be playing this holliday season....remember NO ati because they dont support the SM 3.0 which i want....the only cards they will have that do either wont be out or will still be "new" and probably higher priced...

hmm, only reason that bothers me is that if i dont buy the cpu now i probably wont get to until sometime next year...so if i start to regret not buying it i still got a while to be "stuck" with it....ahh choices choices heh...as it gets closer to christmas time im gonna be saving up for the videocard....gonna see if i cant get "permission" from the fiance(im sure i mispelled that lol) to buy the ram 😛 already whipped *tsk tsk*
