The main function would be gaming, online FPS mostly. I'll be using a DSL 356K up 3.0MB down.

Thanks for any advice or comments in avance

Well, you've basically selected the best of every component. However, if you're not going to be overclocking, you will see no performance benefit from premium RAM over standard RAM.

I am also partial, at this point, to waiting for the next-gen video cards - if you must, you can grab one 6800GT now and upgrade it in a few months or so. In fact, since you will be using an LCD, I would recommend one 6800GT and just one 7800GXT down the road. Your maximum resolution will be 1280x1024, as this is the max the monitor can do, and it's unlikely the 7800GXT won't be able to handle everything at that res for quite some time.

Of course, you could always get a higher resolution LCD or even a widescreen LCD.

Other than that, make sure you get the "new" type Raptor 74GB drive - the ones from past years are said to be much slower and there may still be some in the pipeline, who knows. The case is just a matter of preference, the PSU should work fine although everyone has their own preferences, mouse looks good; the Saitech gamers keyboard is something you should test out before you make the jump - some people have tried it and still preferred a standard QWERTY keyboard.

I don't know anything about those headphones or DVD burner.

Great advice, thanks!

I didn;t know that there were different versions of the raptors, I'll have to look into that to make sure the one I get is the newer of the set.

I have tried out the keyboard, the extra number pad I intend to map to weapon/option configs instead of the movement type keys and place it next to the mouse. I am a wasd boarder when it comes to that.

The 19 inch LCD is almost too much to deal with as it is, I am used to using 17in CRTs up til now.

I didn't actually know the ram was premium. The 2 GB set is currently $295 at newegg, and one of the few with timings that low.

Thanks!

Lol 😉

I was with you until the massive RAID configuration. And I don't even want to try to figure out liquid cooling... 🙂

If you notice, the components I am picking are low user knowledge ones. I picked the Asus over the DFI, no RAID, etc... I am building myself with this setup (as opposed to Alienwaring a $6,400 similar system) and I want to keep it as simple as possible.

Why are you getting a single 19" LCD with a $4,100 system? That's not much to look at during the 95% of the time you're not gaming.

The BenQ 1620 has pretty poor burn quality. The Plextor 716 is the best burner out there.

He didn't say he was a professional graphic artist 🙂.

I'd be getting a 30"+ display if I was gonna spend that much.

And -- just wondering here -- what exactly is wrong with people on this forum that they suggest the NEC 3520A even for a $17,272 system when the Plextor 716, Pioneer 109, and even the available-some-places NEC 3540A are all very clearly better?

O.M.F.G... I wish I had that kind of money to blow... If you have so much, why not throw in a couple of TV tuners for some extra enjoyment? 🙂

Almost 18G's and no SSD's?

The TV tuners wouldn't help me I don't think. I agonized about the LCD as it was, but went with it over the CRT because of size considerations (didn't want a monster CRT on my desk). I don't have unlimited money, the ~4,100 is about the limit here. 🙂

I'll look into the burner. I have really been coming up short in looking for burner reviews. This was the best I came up with so far, but I'll definately check out the Plextor thanks!

---EDIT---

And, about the LCD. I am actually going to use this almost 100% for gaming. A little internet browsing, but otherwise all gaming. I have a DVD-TV combo for movies, so I don't need it for that, and I don't plan on anything productive running... 🙂 The 19inches is more than I can really comprehend as it is actually. At work I run with a 17 in LCD, which seems huge, and beyond that they really get expensive anyway. The VP191 is $429 right now, so it isn't killer (like $700 for a 20.1)

Hmm, the Plextor PX-716 doesn't seem to support double layer DVD writing... Other than that it looks pretty good. It is more than double the cost of the one I was planning on getting though.

The benq 1620 actually has some of the best burn quality and the highest media compatibility for dvd burners out right now. Check Cdrinfo.com if you need more information. You may also want to check out the LG 4163, just a real workhorse dvd burner.

The Benq1620 is the one I have lined up to get right now. The reviews I read seemed to center on it being highly reliable.

I'll check these other ones that were mentioned too though.

Thanks!

🙂
