Your Thoughts: Media Being Kept Away From WTC Disaster Site

I've been hearing various news channels say that the reporters are being kept away from the center of the disaster zone. Many health workers are saying that the TV pictures are no where close to what they are personally seeing right in the middle of the disaster. Bodies piling one on top of another, body parts strewn around. etc

What are your thoughts? Should the media be kept away, or should everything be shown (with warnings of course).
The health workers are saying that there is no security issue or else the health workers themselves would not be allowed
into the disaster zone.

Yes, they have no business meddling with a rescue effort. And I dont know about you, but I dont want to watch dead bodies pile up. The media plays on sensationalism, and they have been good this time, for now. Allowing them in would only cause a frenzy and more unncessisary upset.

I agree 100% with the decision not to let the media in close. They would hamper rescue efforts and not to mention the extremely inappropriate images that the rescue workers are trying to endure in person.

some mother f*cker is probably taping it and going to make a Wild on the WTC or some stupid sh!t and people will buy it..... sad so sad..... for everyones sakes i hope not though

Not only should the media be kept the heck out of there, they also should stop playing videos of the plane crashes. Everyone has seen it by now, if for no other reason, stop showing them out of respect for those who lost their loved ones.

we've all seen the rubble, no need to dig in deeper, familys need to be respected now...BTW, building was built in the 70's i think? i assume all insulation and fireproofing was done w/ asbestos..any word on this?

What possible need does the media have to be there. There are professionals there doing a very difficult and dangerous job, the media would/could only iterfer endangering themselves and the rescue workers. Accomplishing nothing other then casusing distress to families of those who died there.

Can you imagine watching them pull your father/mother/son/daugher out of the ruble..... piece at a time!

Keep the media back...Way back.

1.) Everybody has been asked to stay away from the area for their safety and not to hinder the rescue efforts, why is the media different??

2.) Have some respect for those killed. Granted it is news, but these were mass-murdered, the least we can do is let them RIP and not be turned into some ratings frenzy or other crazy notion.

yes i have a friend that got videos from his sister-in-law taken from the site. i said there was a reason to show people jumping out of buildings yesterday and supported it being shown for just that one time. but this doesnt need to be on tv. severed body parts, mutilated bodies, etc. no one should have to deal with this, and it certainly doesnt need to be seen on tv.

last night a health expert was on tv saying that much of that had been taken out. the people who have left the area have nothing to worry about health wise from asbestos, and that rescue workers will have problems with burning in the lungs and trouble breathing but shouldn't be anything permanent. that was about 5am this morning

yep, the media doesnt mention it much... but there are body parts all over the place. i know this because doug goodstein (sp?) from the howard stern show was down there all night helping to clean up and search for survivors and he mentioned it today on air. the fact that the other building may collapse too isn't helping either i'm sure or the abestos (sp?) that's in the air.

I think some of the media is going overboard already. Tonight while watching Geraldo on CNBC they had stillframes of the people who had jumped out of the windows. They had blown them up several times so you could actually see the position in which they were falling and even the clothes they were wearing (suits, colors, etc.). I thought that was rather disturbing and didn't really need to be shown.

I agree. Safety first. And really, no need to actually see the horrors that I already know are there.

Still, others may want and need to see the carnage to feel connected. I don't know why, but, it's not my place to say they can't. Thus when it's safe for others to be there, they probably should let in some camera crews for documentary purposes... if for no other reason so that if we're still here 40 yrs from now we don't get idiots trying to tell us his never happened and the WTC was never there to begin with.

😉

The media are nothing but a bunch of bottom feeders who contribute nothing to the rescue effort but their intruding cameras and bevies of completely moronic questions. When I say moronic questions I mean those like the following:

"How are you feeling right now?"
"What do you think of all that has happened here today?"

What a bunch of crap. Either these people are incredibly insensitive, or they are completely stupid. I would lay money on the latter.

Absolutely, safety first. Next thing you know reporters would need to be rescued when debris collapses and that would take valuable resources away from the current efforts.

I also thing its more respectful to the families who have lost loved ones to not have their mangled body parts shown to the world.

i agree with the decision.

ppl are being found, dead and alive.

the area is still dangerous, and is still a crime scene. some footage are allowed to be shot. the city has given certain areas for the media to "camp" to take footage.

remember that body parts are all over the place, not just corpses. so... the less footage of body parts, the better.

I wholeheartedly agree!!!

Thats not even that bad. Screw the fvcking media for showing the people jumping out of the buildings. I don't blame them for showing it when its live, but showing it afterwards? I hope the families of those people that jumped sue the news company out of business.

I personally dont want to see body parts laying around... and im sure that most parents wouldn't want their kids seeing these things either.
