25$ an hour is good especially if you can work overtime

Computer Engineer - 30k, and I was glad to get it since I graduated in 2002. But now I feel ripped off.

$37k as a Business major - Finance

$50k after two years. I am good.

Edit: And I got an offer for a promotion two days ago that would be my 4th promotion in less than a year, and would take me to $55k.

Mine was $25k/year CAN in early 2000 as a web dev. Living expenses in the area were very low, though I knew I was pretty underpaid. It was a nice starter job though for 6 months.

Problem is that I love this company and I don't want to leave...but I already know they can't afford to pay me much more. Would you leave a small company that treats you like family, in order to pursue a more befitting salary?

Most people I know in computer engineering started at $65K in places around Boston and Silly Valley with bachelors.

That's your perogative - no one can make that decision for you.

YES.
I mean if it was $2K difference, then no, but we are talking about tens of thousands of dollars underpay.
BTW, there is a lot more hiring going on right now for computer engineering. It has began picking up over the last few months.

I've already made the decision. I'm going to get 3 solid years of experience at this company, and then move on to greener pastures if things don't change. I was just interested to see what other people think.

That's different from how most people see it, but hey, that's your call :)
I think you can get good experience at companies that pay well and have lots of perks.
There is no reason why an engineer should get paid like a teacher :D

You might also want to ask for year of graduation (and location), as that will make a huge difference. If you graduated during the "tech boom" you were all but guaranteed a job with a good salary. Not the case after the bust.

I started out around mid 20K, Business/MIS, about 10 years ago...I live here down South so the cost of living is much cheaper than Northern folks and other states such as California and such.
