Web Browser: Epiphany

Email Application: Mozilla Thunderbird

Media Player: mplayer

IM Client: none usually. Gaim if anything.

Graphic Editing: Gimp

Torrent/P2P: btdownloadcurses + screen and/or Azureus.

CD/DVD Burning: k3b

Spyware: none needed.

Antivirus: none needed usually. Clamav if anything.

Firewall: Ipcop dedicated router (old 300mhz machine stuffed full of ethernet cards) for home (handles VPN and DMZ zones for wifi and VPN over internet) and Firestarter for my lappy since I carry it around to various wifi hotspots.

OS: Debian

Word Processor / Office Suite: OpenOffice.org or none. Never realy had much use for something that big. For word proccessor I generally prefer Abiword. For spreedsheet Gnumeric. They are much much faster and have nicer interfaces then Oo_Org, but Oo_Org is more feature complete.

Audio Player: Mpd (music player daemon) (with mpc command line and gmpc gui controls) and sometimes Amarok for generating playlists and finding lyrics and tying it into K3b for burning music mixes.

Have you OpenOffice users had any compatability issues with the applications? I just installed it and wanted to know if there are any glitches to woorry about.

It's provides the best compatability your ever going to find anywere for anything.

That being said Microsoft doesn't want you to anything buy Microsoft products and intentially makes it difficult to support it's formats. Maybe it's changing with it's XML-based stuff, but I don't think so. (we'll see. If it's realy open it will be supported quickly)

On simple things it works fine. On files with complex (or abused) formatting you will see things messed up. Nothing major usually.. Like messed up indention or missing bullet points. If it's for a resume' or something you'd want to double check documents using a copy of MS Office. Most of the time it works fine, but you want to be sure.

Some people run into problems quickly. Other people use it for a long time with no issue. It just depends.
