Pretty sure Facebook has terms and conditions that you agree to, giving them the legal right to distribute your information to a certain degree. Hardly "against your will"

If you don't know how to use facebook, it's best not to fill in items you don't want shared.

FB's privacy settings are very granular and as such beyond the comprehension of most idiots out there.
