I`m interested whats your oppinion on this card, I heard that it works much better then some DX9 cards like FX5200 or ATI9200, and when its OC`ed it can measure up to 5700 and 9550....how much does this card costs (used one of course)?

only problem is it doesn't have dx9 feature set. It is fairly fast card IIRC, probably the equivalent to a 9600pro i'd guess, but getting very long in the tooth now...

Yes its faster than the 5200, and 9200. It doesnt do DX9 though, or the full DX8 features. It cant play BF2 as of now either.

Also, there are only two 4800's. The standard 4800, or the 4800SE. Thanks to NV's misleading names, the 4800SE is actually slower than the 4800. The 4800SE is a 4400 with AGP 8x. The 4800 is a 4600 with AGP8x.

If you have $90 to spend, get a 9800 Pro. Or perhaps a used 9600 Pro for $50.

It will work with 99.9% of games right now. It just doesnt have DX9 effects. In a game such as HL2, it should still do pretty well.

I just cant endorse the buying of a DX8 card, when DX9 cards are so cheap. And not being able to play BF2, and possibility other future games would certainly make me think twice about it.

COuldn't have said it better myself.

OP: If you are looking for a cheap card. Get a Geforce 6200 and OC the crap out of it. If you dont like OCing then save and get a 6600 series card. I find it hard to recommend the X700's because the 6600's outclass them somewhat, however they are still a very viable option.

Great card, although I wouldn't be planning to buy one right now unless you get a really good deal ($45 or so). I've got the 4200 version and it can play all current games great except doom3. It can play doom3, but I need to use the lowest resolution and turn the quality levels down low.

Check out the vga charts here:
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041004/vga_charts-08.html

It has the 4200 and 4600, so the 4800 will be a bit faster than that.

Other good upgrade cards right now are the radeon 9800 pro that can be found for as low as $90 and the 6600gt for $135 (refurbished). They're 2-3x more expensive than the geforce4 series, but give you around 2x more performance.

I'd get an X700 over a vanilla 6600, but not a 6600GT. Running a vanilla 6600 right now, and it enables me to play any HL2 based game and Doom 3 at about 1024x768 2xQ AA and 8x AF. Not the greatest, but feasible for some I'm sure. If you need more juice than that, grab a 6600GT, or if you need a LOT more juice, pick up a 6800GT.

Are you really considering buying one of them? If so don't. Radeon 9800 pro's are cheap and 6600GT's are just a little bit more expensive but ultimately faster.

It's a good budget gaming card, but don't expect to be more than it is: a 4x2 card with DX8.1 and poor AA/AF ability. That said, my Ti 4400 is probably the longest I've ever kept a video card. It went 2.5 years before being replaced, carrying me all the way from WarCraft 2 in July of 2002 to Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 late last year before I decided it was time to retire him.

I bought the 4600 Ti when it was released Or I should say David did . It ran really hot and performed terriably and thats when ATI came into our lives. David said that if you play Black Hawk Down this is the card you want because u don't have to use cheats because half the time it didn't render the scenes correctly .

You could see where buildings belonged but couldn't see the buildings and you could run threw the walls. lol

If you plan do do any kind of gaming, the 9800pro or a 6600gt is as low as you should go. Unless you get a 6600 vanilla and OC the cr@p out of it. Anything less will make you wish for a faster card as soon as you fire up the first game.
