Hello all,

I am going to build a new rig with the following specs:

MoBo: Asus M2N-VM-DVI PCIE
CPU: AMD Athlon 4 4200+ AM2
RAM: DDR2 2048MB (2x1G) PC6400 800Mhz
GPU: Albatron GeForce 8600GT 256MB (PCI express)
HDD: Segate SATA II 320GB (7200RPM 16mb Cache)
PSU: Antec ATX TruePower 550W TRio

Now, my question is with the Asus M2N-VM will I be able to run my rig with one one STICK of DDR2 dual channel RAM? or will I have to run it with 2 for the dual channel?

Your comments on the planned set up are more than welcome and if any one can answer my question I would be forever grateful.

Thank you in advance.

* For "dual channel" you will need "dual" DDR2 modules.
* Dual channel makes more of a difference when you use onboard video. Since you're planning on an 8600GT dual channel memory mode won't be that big of a deal.

Your rig won't be a power hog. I'd save some $$ and go with an Antec Earthwatts 380W.

I'd use the savings to bump the CPU up to a X2 5000+.

As long as you're in the neighborhood, I'd move up to the MSI 8600GTS.

I say keep the PSU in case you decide on a better video card in the future, don't want to have to run out to buy another PSU. The 550W PSU you picked will support practically any single card out there, and it's not exactly bank breaking.

I am also a fan of the earth watts line by Antec. I'd recommend that over the true power. They are very efficient.

The 500 watt version for 66 bucks with free shipping and no rebate to wait out.

You can use from 1 to 4 sticks with little difference unless overclocking a good deal.

2 sticks is a sweet spot and prices are also excellent in 2 x 2 GB.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231122 80 bucks.

I'd consider the 500GB Samsung Spinpoint HDD

and a 9600 GT vid card

what is your budget and what do you intend to use the system for? Its hard to make recommendations without a budget and an idea of what you want to do with the system.
