Your opinions about Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 vs Klipsch Promedia 2.1

I currently own a set of the Microsoft speakers. I mainly use these for listening to MP3s, I love these speakers. I also have my mini stereo system with a 3 speaker set up in the corners of my room. I always seem to hear people praising the Klipsch systems. I have never seen a set in action but have looked at several reviews. Just wondering if its worth to get rid of my current speakers and make a purchase for the Klipsch

I've heard very good things about MS 80 (from an audio enthusiast who hates Microsoft!) They're obviously not as recent, or in the same price bracket as PM2.1's--also admitted by PC audio ethusiasts. But unless you're splurging on a pro-audio soundcard and ultra-quiet PC (like I did), I don't think it's worth the cost in your case.

I too have the Digital Sound System 80!! 🙂 One at home and one at work..hehe.
Love it too!

I think Philips makes them, found that somewhere on the box.

I have the DSS 80 and I think it is good. I really don't use it much for music as it is stil crap compared to any decent stereo.

Does anyone know if it has win 2k drivers or software?

I used to remember it having some cool software for win 98

Ya considering I got these for 100 - 50 rebate 50 BUX for a nice bumpin system.. but the klipsch look nice, 200 watt system. I also tried doing a seach on the ms digital and the cheapest I found was about 130

eh..you got it for $50? lucky guy..i've had mine for awhile and got bought it for $150 2 and a half years ago i think, still got the $50 rebate.

Back a few months before MS discountinued their Sound System 80, most retailers were selling it for about $100 and there was a $50 manufacturer's mail-in rebate that came in the box. It was a nice thumpin' set of speakers for only $50. I believe they were the first loudspeakers that sported Philips' WOOX technology (basically a specially-designed enclosure for subs and large woofers). They can't really hold a candle to Klipsch's current offerings, but they were no slouch either.

Would you say that the Sound System 80 is better than altec's ACS54 and 56 series of speakers?!

What speakers today are comparable to the 80 or better (Besides the Klipsch, midland and boston speakers 🙂). Hehe

I too have a set of DSS80's and they are very good sounding speakers. I got mine for less then 50 bucks i think. it was a long time ago. The software was great.. until Microsoft stopped making and supporting it which is a shame.... By any chance.. Any updated drivers?... I doubt it but.. just asking.

I just got the Klipsch 2.1 Promedia and I am VERY impressed with them. I can't imagine a better pair of 2.1. 😀

If got the $, then I would go with Klipsch.

i too have the ms 80 speakers, really cool sound, i also got em for a 100 bucks but i got the rebate for 50 so you can conclude that i got it for 50.

Yeah, they're great speakers! I bought them 1.5 years ago, and I just love them!

Recently, I upgraded to Win2K, and the speakers still sound great and still have USB support, but the equalizer software is no longer available. Also, the subwoofer volume can't be adjusted through software, only the controls on the speakers.

I wish Microsoft would introduce drivers for Win2K... maybe Windows XP will have new drivers... hey, I can dream, right? 🙂

No matter what, these are great speakers. I was even thinking about hooking them up to a CD player and reciever and have a much cheaper "bookshelf" system... what do you all think?
