If you've never heard of him, click here..

"Sen. Bob Kerrey, Vietnam War hero, Medal of Honor winner, often came across as a brooding figure. His friends attributed Kerrey?s melancholy streak to his long suffering in a veterans? hospital after part of his leg was blown off by a Viet Cong grenade in 1969. But it turns out that Kerrey was dwelling as well on a darker story. He was haunted by the night of Feb. 25, 1969, when he and his squad of six Navy commandos, on a mission to ambush a Viet Cong chieftain, killed about a score of unarmed civilians, most of them women and children, in the South Vietnamese hamlet of Thanh Phong. From time to time, and with increasing urgency as the years passed, Kerrey contemplated going public with the story. But, he told NEWSWEEK last week, ?I was never able to muster the courage to do it.?"

Don't hate a player hate the game. Sh!t happens in war, especially in an unconventional war against unknown enemies.

I'm not particularly interested in the actual fiasco that he was involved in, I'm skeptical of the political motivations behind his coming out with this information now, in the most Clintonesque fashion. I had a post on it a few weeks ago.

Agree.

Seems like damage control to me.

Done anything different? Nah, I think I would have ordered the execution of grandmothers, grandfathers and innocent children just like Kerrey, but then that's just me.

(just kidding of course)

I don't think it's fair to criticize or second-guess any actions Kerrey might or might not have done 30 years ago. However, like many people, I'm more interested in his political motivation. It certainly does appear Clintonesque, and damage control time. I don't have a problem criticizing Kerrey politically; I don't care for him. But I won't attack what happened 30 years ago.

Sweet!!!!! We've got a kid here barely old enough to remember the Gulf War instigating a debate on Kerrey's action in Vietnam.

Gotta go back to my original beliefs on this.......

If you weren't there and you've never worn a uniform in time of war, it's not for you to judge the man. Let the man be judged by his peers and his higher power!

30 years is a long time to be with a festering emotional wound that won't heal. Why does he deserve salt thrown into it?

What he did wasn't wrong, he followed orders, gruesome as they were. Yeah he killed women and children, the same women and children who might turn around and tell a bunch of guerillas where they were headed and kill them all. My problem is that he won't come clean with it, it looks like he's still lying about it. You can't blame the man, but he's cetainly not helping his reputation.

Sometimes you psychologically can't remember all the details. It took my father-in-law 30 years to tell my wife about the child he shot in Vietnam because the child pulled a pin on a gernade in front of him and his squad. Ask him about it today and he'll probably tell you he can't remember doing that. The mind will block out many things in war.

<< It sickens me when those who weren't even around back then feel they can critisize Kerry for his service or what happened back on that night. How many of you can say you would have done anything different? How many of you have have ever even had to test your meddle? I'm not talking about School or any of that other happy sh!t either. >>

Relax buddy. If you'll take the time to actually read the five posts above yours, you'll realize that no one is criticizing your hero Bob Kerry for his "service". We're just skeptical as to why he suddenly came out with this information, what with him being Al Gore's successor and all.

But if it makes you feel good to attack a straw man, go ahead.
