FDA Looking Into Blindness-Viagra Link
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050527/ap_on_he_me/viagra_blindness
WASHINGTON - Federal health officials are examining rare reports of blindness among some men using the impotence drugs Viagra and Cialis, a disclosure that comes at a time when the drug industry can ill afford negative publicity about another class of blockbuster medicines.

The Food and Drug Administration still is investigating, but has no evidence yet that the drug is to blame, said spokeswoman Susan Cruzan.

This type of blindness is called NAION, or non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy. It can occur in men who are diabetic or have heart disease, the same conditions that can cause impotence and thus lead to Viagra use.

The FDA has 42 reports of the blindness, 38 among users of Viagra and four among users of Cialis. There were no cases reported among users of Levitra, the third impotence drug.
May or may not be related. And, anyone know if NAION can be reversed? I didn't see anything else in the article that would point to additional studies being done to see if there is a link.

Meh, who needs Viagra anyway :)

I have a feeling that most of the things we use and consume everyday cause something. I don't think we'll ever get away from that. However we could minimize the risk, without bein anal.

That commercial for Cialis really cracks me up.

"If erections that last longer than four hours you should see your doctor immediately."

Hmm... if I ever have an erection that lasts longer than four hours, I won't be wasting it in my doctor's office. ;)

Heh I have no idea but could it be a result of increase blood flow that causes arteries to burst?

Viagra and those impotence drugs are hilarious. Take a bunch of caffeine and you probably get the same affect. On top of that it doesnt deal with some of the underlying issues which cause impotence which are pyschological instead of physical.

Listen, AFAIK for people who need it, it really doesn't matter how it works or what the underlying issues are.

And AFAIK, caffeine won't do the trick like this class of drugs does.

It is pretty funny though. The lengths people will go to for that "quality, strong, lasting sexual experience".

Guess it's for people that don't have sex often, and are inexperienced. The in out part is just a small part of it.

there are multiple causes for impotence. In older men, and guys with diabetes, you're looking at arterial damage/ dysfunction being responsible for the erectile difficulties.

Yes, but only by engaging in frequent sex without the use of impotence drugs. Which means the medical insurance industry will soon be paying for high-class, er, ocular-treatment companions.

I don't use these drugs but if these are "high-class" err... companions...could my doctor prescribe one anyway?

Well, it does. Until it fvcks you up. But that isn't proven possible... yet. The thought does sicken me. Maybe these old bastards should stop cramming their mouths with fast food grease (or fancy restaurant grease) and eat some God damned fiber?
