I'm looking for a senior design project. I already have the job i want lined up, so i don't really care much about what my senior design project is. Basically i just want to make something people will use.

so, what's a program you'd like to have that doesn't already exist. This will be a GPL release when i'm done, so i won't be using any of your great ideas for commercial use.

Ours were assigned to us, they were company sponsored projects. Are you working by yourself?

Also, you say a program that doesn't exist. This is strictly a project to develop a piece of software?

You should make a fun interactive desktop that does passive cute things. Go with a Miyazki theme like Totoro 😛
 
A SmartFTP clone, but freeware again.

It was a good program, but now they want a lot of money for it. So I'm settling with FireFTP for now.


Or reprogram Ikariam. If you have a moderately retarded cat, you could set him to work on it, and probably get better results than Gameforge's programmers have managed.

yes, its a solo project. the goal being to develop a piece of software. it doesn't strictly have to be something that doesn't exist. for example, it could be to design a feature into an already existing open source project. I could take an assignment from my professor, and I also have some ideas of my own, but before I purpose anything, I thought it might be a fun idea to see if anyone has an idea for a program they'd like to use that doesn't exist yet.

My senior design got me a better job than I already had and was happy with. Don't sell yourself short.
 
I had 2 senior design projects.

Hardware was design the logic for a 803.11 receiver(each group was doing either a receiver or transmitter). It was only a semester long project so we only had time to do ad hoc frames.

Software was design more open. We did an OpenGL video game. Drove around shooting missles and trying to find your enemy which had our own little AI for it. I learned a lot about project management from this class because we sucked at it.

My senior project was exceedingly boring and useful only to a limited audience, but it did get me published (albeit in a journal you likely have never heard of). 😉 Hopefully yours will be more fun - not that I have any ideas to contribute.
 
A program that downloads all the porn off the internet and in place of the downloaded porn put up images and videos that say "BRING BACK THE PORN!"
