Your gpu plans for Crysis 2?

It's a disappointment only because Grooveriding can apparently get plenty of GTX 480s for dirty cheap.

Lol, I know. I've been looking to snag a used 480 for sli, but no luck yet in the $200-250 range.

Grooveriding, I agree with you in that $200-250 is my target price (used, working and from a credible source). If you manage to snag one for the price, please pass along some tips (preferably in this thread) to us second-rate, bargain hunters. 🙂

I really don't think you can go wrong at any price point except for getting a 570 over the 6950. Anand put it best, same performance, $50 less. . . Some of the lower/low-mid range cards it may be different though.

I don't see why its such a big deal what brand people get.

Until the game is out, I have 0 plans.

I would like to upgrade IF the game is good, unfortunately it will be console port and EA is still the developer, so my hope that it will turn into another Graphic benchmark is VERY low.

Also the entire focus on 3D crap lowers my hope even more....

I no longer buy games or GPUs until I read plenty of reviews/experiences. Price is high, and I don't like to regret my purchases....

I'm with ya...I've recently played many console games and more or less gave up on my PC except for graphics, audio, and video work. I want to upgrade, but it's not in the cards for a while. I'm buying a new car which is more important than my want for a new PC and the latest wizbang GPU. I'll suffer with what I have for the moment unless Crysis 2 is so good that it makes all other games seem like baby's toys. Then I might get a new GPU for it. I would probably benefit little from the new GPU at 1920x1200 given my current system though. I'm way behind the curve. I don't really care much to be honest. We will see.

How is 580 a disappointment? There was almost zero hype, it wasnt even supposed to be possible to do, it added performance, and fixed the power/heat issues with GF100.

In order for something to be a disappointment, it means it didn't meet expectations. What expectations did you have for the 580 that weren't met?

All I was reading before the initial 580 leaks was that a 512 core Fermi would grill a set of spare ribs.

Personally I think the price is just wrong for it. Seeing as the AMD 6970 holds its own and it's over $100 cheaper...the question is why buy a GTX 580? Sure it's faster, but $100+ faster? I don't see it that way personally. It's a personal decision though so I can't speak for everyone else. I just feel that Nvidia is overpriced at the moment for their top card. Not to mention that the power concumption and noise levels as well as temps favor AMD still. Some people really care about that when they buy a new card.

Again it's just preference and would depend a lot on what you want from your card. You can't get certain features with AMD cards that you might use with your Nvidia card. 3D Vision for instance, or some apps that support CUDA and not AMD's GPU acceleration.

I'll wait for benchmarks, but my current setup should be good enough. I may sell the 470's and get a 580 for a quieter, cooler setup though.

It's the basic ebay premise. Most of the buy it now 480s are about $330. You camp the auctions for the 480 you want. A fair deal sell for $250.

On a canadian website I use, redflagdeals.com, I've seen 480s going for $275 CDN, and saw a pair go for $500.

You can get them cheap used as tons of people are dumping them.

Hoping to have SLI support for my gtx 460's out of the box. Also, lets hope there are no last minute delays.

I find the 6970 a let down but the 6950 is a good buy, pretty much like the 6850 and 6870.

So I'll have either a 6950, 6850, or GTX560 if it comes out within the next year.

I'd save judgement on the 69xx cards for a bit. Most of the reviews ive seen havent even been done with the 10.12 drivers. AMD will likely be able to squeeze a bit more out of these cards since they changed the SP architecture.

The rumor mill for the gtx560 is already striking up hot. Chiphell had mention of it being 10% slower than a gtx570, which puts it at about the same speed as the 6950. I see a potential $250 gtx570 putting some serious pricing pressure on the entire GPU lineup from both camps.

honestly, after thinking about it. I want a game that at 1920x1200 makes my current video card unplayable. Then it will be really time to upgrade. The days of games being released that strain the highest end cards seem to be over or at least curtailed at the moment. Games aren't pushing the graphics technology like they were in the past. Your video card is more advanced than the games can utilize is what I see now.
