An Atari 400XL with 16K of RAM and a cassete tape drive for storage. I eventually got a bigger 5-1/4" floppy drive. That was a fun machine to program on. I upgraded to an 800XL later on with 64K of RAM. Woooooooosh...it was fast!!!

my first purchased PC was a Packard Bell 125mhz
my first LEGO-assembled PC was an AMD K-6 350, which I am still using over a year later, upgraded to a whopping 400

my dad's first was a Commodore 64

I learned on a keypunch machine, using BASIC, back in '77
The teacher would have to take our punched cards to the school district to run them, and then go pick the results up the next day.
In '79 we thought we were the sh*t when we got terminal monitors connected directly to the district's computer via telephone line.

I had a MIGHTY 386DX 40MHz machine with 4 MB of RAM and (drum roll) a whopping 1 MB of video memory.
It was bleeding edge technology, then came the 486...

I had a tandy HX with a whole 640 KB of memory and dual floppy drives.
Tride to play some driving game on there once. Talk about a slide show, o5 seconds per frame. Next up was a 486 33 cyrix. :| Upgraded the video to a 2MB card. Then we went to a 486-66DX2 with a huge 8MB of RAM and a bottomless 250 MB HD, 1 MB Video, and a 2 X cd-rom. Upgrade the ram twice, video card once to a diamond stealth with 2mb, added another 250 MB HD, load win 95 on there (many times), went to a dx4 133, p133, souple more HD's, a p200 MMX and 6GB drive. That comp now sits on my friend desk has a wedding gift. 48 MB ram, 2 GB hd, 20X cd-rom, Diamond 2000MX sounds card and a ATI mach 64 2MB. Happy has can be with it. Oh I currently have a celeron 533a, 256 MB ram, tnt2u, 16 GB HD space, DVD ROM, SBlive, Hollywood Decoder card, and a NIC.

Damn went through a lot of computer stuff.

<< you sure about the 1x cdrom?..... >>

I am sure. Uses those CD caddies too and had the interface card with it. Slow as well. But I did not realize the specs when I was that young. I only found out about it recently after looking at this strange card and questioning my dad about it.

I'm only 15 so my first computer was a 486 sx/25mhz, 4mb ram, 1x cd-rom! I had to skip running the dos things at startup to play DooM because it wouldnt work if I went into windows then exited to dos.

Atari 800XL and a TI 99/4A with the modem you stuck the receiver of the phone into, the casette tape storage thing, and the voice synthesizer thing. I think I was all of about 6 when we got these.

[EDIT] I think we still have them in a closet somewhere, actually [/EDIT]

my dad built an apple II somehow. it was one piece and had the lovely green display. then it was an 8086, then a 386 SX16. that thing was blazing fast compared to the 8086.

A C64 with a 1541-II 5-1/4 disk drive. It had a cartridge slot, I used to play the "Avenger" cartridge (Space Invaders) for hours.
Last fall I bought a C128 system just for the nostalgia. It was cool!!!

well it wasn't mine, my brother paid for it, but we worked on a Tandy TRS-80 together. I remember it had a tape drive. yes, a cassette tape drive, we split buying a 5 1/2 floppy drive. my uncle had written a math program for me, and after a couple weeks of it, I had him show me how to program. too bad most of it didn't stick :)

Imaginer, you lucky SOB! :p

I didn't get access to those expensive and fast 1X CD-ROM with caddies until the time 486's came around. :p

The Apple ii plus. Wow that was a while ago. I remember reprogramming all the games to say my name in it. :) Those were the days. I never upgraded to the green monitor though, i had the old grayscale monitor. Playing choplifter and Armor Alley on that thing was sweet. I need to find those old games again. hehe

I started out with a Commodore 64 back in 1982. Graduated to a C-128 in 1986, and then moved to the PC platform in 1989.
