More of a metal guy but I did like this:
Always liked
"I was sitting in my room staring at the wall thinking about everything but then again about nothing"

The Smiths? I like them, but they're not punk. They're emo before anyone knew what emo was.

As a youngster, I never listened to punk other than Green Day. As an adult, I'm liking more of it. I've only gotten into Rancid and Social Distortion, but I like what I'm hearing. This has reminded me I need to listen to some Misfits and Black Flag albums.

i would just go to the "social clubs" had in italy and see whatever amateur punk band was playing, because that's really punk.

And NOFX.

i went through all the punk bands, i fell in love with the message of social protest, eventually found Crass and decided i didn't like it because, jesus, at least you got to have *some* music. And then Bad Religion, which i thought was the be-all, end-all punk band.
i got disgusted with punk once Green Day became super-famous and people started buying "punk" clothing at Tower Records for eye-gouging prices.

I guess groups like the Ramones, Sex Pistols and Black Flag, or even The New York Dolls, are too obvious. And a good case can be made to call the Kinks proto-punk. Anyway, a very close friend of mine was in a punk band called The Endorphins (neither of the bands by that name that you'll find on Google) in Philly in the early-mid 80s, so I got to hang out in a gonzo haze post concert with The Dead Kennedys and The Stick Men, to name two.

Punk Rock is not my main thang, but I'll toss out the Butthole Surfers and Husker Du.
