Hi to all!

I'm a newbie here, that is why I'd like to know what different people all-time favorite software is. Namely, let's say, up to 5 software titles you love to use and could never be without. I know that some of you, (most of us, in fact), will have far more than 5, but the whole point is to shorten it down. That should make it even more interesting, as than letting everyone to post their 30, 40+ long lists of software titles they like/love.

There is my top5 list of software:

1) SIM ICQ (Simple Instant Messenger) The most convenient and smart application for loading ICQ, IRC, MSN, AIM. It always loads contact list (which usual ICQ and even Trillian can't do sometimes) and never has glitchs.

2) The Bat! It is the most convenient and easy E-mail client I ever used!

3) Acronis True Image. One of the things i'll never refuse:). It helps me to back up and always do it without any problems and very quickly.

4) Light Alloy Player. One more software which I like very much. It allows do fullscreen or stop movie or change loudness or scroll video only with mouse!

5) WinAmp. It playes all music filles and even can view video (but I don't use this feature). It also has an easy interface and a huge amount of different original skins. I downloaded a lot of skins from its site and sometimes change them:)

Thanks!

Without a doubt, WinZip or WinRAR are almost absolute necessities for anyone that downloads stuff online (email attachments primarily benefit because of so many email providers now blocking any .exe files to hamper the spread of viruses). So those are at the top of my all-time favorite software - I simply couldn't do much of anything without them.

Next would be WinAMP. It's simple, it's sweet (v2.91 was the last best one - tiny and fast and no bloat). I found a WinAMP_Lite the other day over at the nLite website (www.nliteos.com). It's a rip of WinAMP 5 that strips out everything possible except for mp3 playback - nice but I need access to the library and other features, so I stay with 2.91.

Next up is my all-time favorite burning application, BurnAtOnce. It's simple, unbloated, gets to the point fast, is upgradable to DVD burning capability and it's just freakin' wicked as all get out. Love it love it love it, can't recommend it enough.

Virtual Dub is simply amazing for what it is. It's a foundation point of many video encoding all-in-one packages these days because of it's ability to do batch processing work. Let's face it, for it's size on the hard drive (just under 1MB) and for all it can do, there isn't anything related to video editing on the PC that can touch it.

Lemme see here... #5 would be...

It's a toss up between mIRC for my IRC duties or Paint Shop Pro for image editing. Both have been around for a long long time, both are outstanding pieces of software with minimal muss or fuss, and both are highly recommended. mIRC is pretty much the defacto standard IRC client for Windows-based PCs, while Paint Shop Pro has been called "the poor man's Photoshop" for many excellent reasons.

There are more of course but those are the primary apps I install as soon as I install Windows nice and clean.

Odd man out would be True Image from Acronis, but that's been mentioned. If you mess with your box enough, you can't live without it really - it's absolute must have software.

Have fun, always...
Paul
