I am currently using Adobe Premiere Pro at work. We started using this software a couple years back, and no one has thought of changing it since it suits our needs fairly well.

Now I'm wondering if there's anything better out there. Premiere Pro isn't bad by any means, I just want to feel like we're using the best.

We make fairly short videos, 5-15 minutes usually.

I'm wanting the opinions of you guys. We run Windows computers, so I'm most interested in that, but I'd still like to hear your opinion even if the software you use is for Mac. I would definitely like to hear from anyone who has used or is using Premiere for their video editing and have tried out other products.

Thanks for any responses.

I'm by no means a video editing guru, but in my very short experience in making gaming videos for my own amusement, Premier Pro was great. IMO, if you and your staff have used Premier for 2 years now, and everyone is completely familiar with it, and it suits your needs very well, I'd not mess with the recipe.

As the old saying goes, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

I used Premiere Pro for about a year and Premier 6 for a couple years before that. Hated v6 but it was what came with my Pinnacle capture board so I stuck with it. Pro was an improvement, but I went ahead and bought Avid Express Pro HD a couple months ago and now I will never use an Adobe editor again. The Avid is much deeper but easier to use at the same time, especially for things like audio. You also get real time alpha channel support and the color correction features are amazing.

i like premiere pro a lot. that's currently my favorite. pinnacle liquid edition is perhaps the best out there for its ease of use and high end ability.

Well, I have experience in FCP 4, Premier Pro, and Vegas...

I think PP is the pick of the litter. FCP has some better codecs (no DVCPro50 or DVCProHD on the PC), however PP has a better integrated filters story. Very similar interfaces. FCP project organization may be better.

Vegas gained steam when Premier 6.x was junk. It has its own editing interface which has pluses and minuses. I actually like the trimmer window, although I may be alone on that. Absolutely no reasonable support for organizing your clips and projects. Even in the shortest of projects you need to organize your scenes.

I upgraded to Vegas 5 after PP 1.0 came out. Never bothered with Vegas 6.

The included tool set in the Video Collection is extremely good. Audition was called Cool Edit Pro before Adobe aquired it and may have been the best package then. Since then, it has only gotten better with really flexible 3 dimensional sound editing (time and frequency along the x and y axes, amplitude by color on the z axis.)

Then there is After Effects and Encore. And if you get the Pro suite After Effects Pro and Photoshop. AEP has motion tracking and strong compositing. Should be in PP in my opinion.

PP is also supported by Cineform. Cineform has a $500 add in to handle HDV and JVC ProHD. A decontented version is free from Adobe for HDV. Additionally they have a several thousand dollar add-in (it requires a capture card and other stuff) to capture raw HD in real time. Their compressed format allows a nearly loss-less editing environment.

So, I would get the PP 1.5 Studio Techniques book and start editing!

My personal favorite is Vegas, but once you've learned one, it's easy to switch between them all. Each of the professional packages is good in its own right.
